Thanks for all the kind words! Turns out, the KID was 17, about to be 18, so hopefully he will get tried as an adult. He was not armed when he went into the building, but he was when he came out, so now its armed burglary instead of just burglary. Ive replayed it a million times, and thinkin what i cold have done different, and the only thing i can come up with is to have shot him.
As someone said earlier, there is a 20 foot rule....its a reactionary gap. If someone is 20 feet away from you, and your just standing talking with your arms at your sides, that person can pull a knife, charge and stab you before you can even draw your weapon fro your holster. We did this drill a lot in the academy because there were a lot of non belevers. I guess i was lucky to already have my weapon out while i was standing on the perimeter
