I did this mod the first night I had the bike home after buying it new. 5yrs of owning the bike and having cut both humps on my Gen 1 & 2, I decided I didn't want it any more. I don't ride 2-up with the wife enough to matter and like the look without. Couple weeks of searching on ebay for a charcoal 09 hump and found a brand new one for $55. Turned around and sold my modified hump, less the base, for $50.
Considering I've been using the grab bar to put both bike's plus old SV on the rear stand for past 12 years it is a little nerve-racking to do it without the bar. After doing it a couple of times, it's no big deal now. I just put the stand behind the bike, push the bike upright off the kickstand and barely let it lean on my leg while i get stand properly centered (using swing arm) and goes right up.
