In the first set of pics we see Ken. He is about 85 feet up pruning a gum tree. The way we climb is simple, Climbing saddle, connected to a grigri, to a micro pully to a acender. Any how here is Ken in action

Now flash foward to 6am.. My office phine rings. It is a apt complex. Seems a tree has snaped off and there is a large piece of it stuck in a near by tree..

Here is what i see when I pull up.

Well this tree is way to small to climb and with the log in it, there is not to many options on bringing it down. Ad to that it is with in 3 feet of building. Add up 3 sliding glass doors, and 3 huge windows on the 2nd floor. So we tie some rope to the tree and tie it to my truck and pull that SOB down.

Here is what it looked like.

here is the tree where we broke it.

We get it all cut up and out the way and move on to the next part of the job. Removing the tree. In the first pic you see the throw line. It is a slick coated line with a 12oz weight bag on one end. We use a giant sling shot to send the line up in the tree. Once over we tie the bull line ( rigging rope) to the throw line and pull it down, there by making a loop with the bull line.

Once over the tree we use a figure of 8 on the bight to made a girth hitch on the limb

We couldn't have heavy equipment in the back yard because of the septic system, so they actually brought in a crane and lifted it over the house. Too bad I was at work and couldn't watch... Pretty interesting job though.

Oh well in that case It would have been a high dollar job lol. Something like that I would charge 600 to fell the tree, 100 to haul it and between 50 to 150 for the stump. it could have been taken down that way, just have to make small cuts

It was actually a lot higher above the deck by the time they came to take it down. Too high to reach without some sort of special equipment anyway... I cut the limbs off of the top to try and keep it from breaking all the way over on the deck, and when some of the ice melted it went up quite a bit. Maybe not the best move, but oh well.
