I wouldn't mide the hights as much as the electricity...
I normally work on our distribution lines which are 7200 volts. When it's raining it tracks over the rubber gloves and it feels like ants crawling on you.

This was during hurricane Charlie, where the ground gave out under my truck and it almost rolled...

It's gonna cost a fortune if Florida Power & Light is coerced into doing a major conversion to underground facilities. Not to mention taking away the off-the-ground fun factor for you linemen.

Most of all the new subdivisions and nieghborhoods we do are all underground now, anyway, but the main feeders and branch lines are overhead. You couldn't afford elec. if everything was put underground. Also, when overhead stuff has a problem you can spot it and fix it quickly but underground fualts take a lot longer. You have to hook up all sorts of equip to find where it's bad, dig it up (by hand usually =sucks) then you can start to repair it.

Going underground is not always a good idea, especially in fl near salt water. A nice flood and you're having to put all new cable in.

-not to mention as you said I can't fly my bucket and check out topless women in their privacy fences!

I love it when there is a hurricane because I know my hubby is going to bring home some major CASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
