Who Rode Today?

House call again today to remove ZX11 carbs. They were pretty rough. $460 worth of parts ordered today . Needle/ seats 85 bucks each x 4 . Ouch .
51 miles is all but it was 68 degrees out and sunny.

Bryan, is there no aftermarket option available for the needle/seat valves?
At work we very seldom use OEM carb parts, too expensive, we have lots of options on carb parts here.... just today I rebuilt a Suzuki GN125 carb with aftermarket carb kit, entire kit was $135 retail. Remember our NZ only buys US$0.71c.
Those carbs on the KAWA have 150 main jets? Quite large.
Nice machine, we had one in at work today, but was just for a tyre, that model is very rare here in NZ, many in Texas?

If that's what u call rough as far as a carb you should see some of the ones I get at work especially on snow blowers. Bad thing is I'm supposed to try and clean them at least twice before I replace them the way our tune up plan is setup but when there's a half inch of sludge in the bowl and the entire thing is green inside i just let them soak while I'm replacing with a new one since I end up eating the extra time for the company's "rule".

Yep, worked on a few of those myself....

I cringe when I open them up sometimes...many people just don't think of maintenance or proper storage practices with small engines.

Oh its green on the throttle blades lol down draft carbs sit different and the bowls do no get to bad . The float needles were stuck open, and what's behind the float seats is awesome.

I find with carbs, it's better to do it right even if it cost more as it will be worth it in the long run...

Nothing worse than being left on the side of the road due to improper carb maintenance...

Greg K&L out of Japan makes fair parts but many have had a hit or miss affair with their carb parts kits .
They use to be 1/3 rd of OEM but today they are nearing OEM prices on some makes / models .
The ZX11C , and D were very popular in the States . 2001 was the last year for production here . The ZX12 replaced it , and it later came back as the ZZR1200 = Fastest production bike with Carburetors.
I could run low 10's , and it would make 186 mph gps on a good day. In all honesty if the ZX14 had been anything like my ZX11 for ease of service I would of never owned a Hayabusa .

In 2001 you could buy a ZXD , ZX12R . Early 2002 ZZR1200 , ZX12 or left over ZX11D's dirt cheap

I had a great day riding my Busa with two other riding mates, beautiful summer weather, wonderful NZ scenery and space to enjoy, fast bikes that soak up the miles and great friends to shoot the breeze with... very cool.
Covered 193km and stopped at 3 seperate waterholes to socialise and compare notes... couldnt ask for more!

It was almost 60 degrees when i went in, but I carried my winter gear for the ride back! lol
Been there, got that tee-shirt. Rode to work one time and it was 70 out, when I was going home 9hrs later there was 3 inches of snow...thankfully I lived on the base and it was only a short (and slow) ride home.

I didn't ride as much last year, but I try to have the right gear that when I want to ride, the weather isn't as much of a hindrance. On the way into work at a light, a guy said he was going to get his bike and ride because he can ride down to 60 degrees and tomorrow it would be 50. That 10 degrees difference is a whole lot of riding he is taking off the table that proper gear would allow you to enjoy.

I'll ride if it's cool out but not cold nor any time where I think there could be frost...the last thing I'd want to do is drop this thing...

I rode in snow in my youth...I used to take my CR250R out into the fields and rip it around in a foot or so of snow....my son's would say the rooster tail coming off the back tire was pretty impressive...
