What Rush said

Let me ask you Obama supporters two things, so I know where you stand and please be honest

1) To you believe in socialism? do you feel our country would be better off if were were soclialist.

No.

2) Second question is, if you dont believe he is a soclialist, and you dont believe he is trying to turn our country into a soclialist state, then at what point will you realize he is? I mean what will it take for you at some point to be convinced he is trying to turn the country into socialism?

You should keep in mind that the question of whether Obama is trying to turn our country socialist is very debatable, and your question ignores this.

SS, maybe you should look to the north to see what how that theory works in practice. Socialized medicine results in rationing and lower levels of health care. Having spent time in Canada and having had relatives who have lied in Canada, I can make the comparison from experience, not from theory and text books. You really want the Government holding the mortgage on your house? The Government determining your income?

You are either straight out of college and have no real world experience, or a life long Union worker accustomed to someone else making all of their decisions for them.

Dennis, an edit might be good here. At least you didn't use the nonstandard "irregardless" :).

I am neither.

Are you sure about your claim pertaining to socialized medicine? According to the 2000 The World Health Organization's ranking of the world's health systems the US ranks 37th, number 1 is France and if I am not mistaken every country better than the US has socialized medicine.

As for the government holding my mortage, makes no difference to me, how would that be any different than a bank? You are still paying someone back right?

Thrasher,

In order to answer your question I need to know: What do you see as being the things that one must believe in to "believe in Socialism"?

But If you are asking if I believe in: A broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating public or state ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and a society characterized by equality for all individuals, with a fair or egalitarian method of compensation.

The answer would be yes I believe this would be a very positive socio-economic system.
As long as we have the NAACP and the ACLU we will never have equality. Too many times the standards for learning and advancement are lowered by race or gender due to organizations such as these. Do away with these organizations and we will start to see equality for ALL individuals.

I live in the Canadian Province of Ontario and my wife is an E.R. nurse. This province has 11 million people and at least 1.1million people are without a family doctor (10%). If you go to a hospital with an emergency, typical wait times in any E.R. range from 3-8hours in most hospitals.
If you need a procedure for something that is not considered immediately life threatening you will find yourself on a waiting list for 2-8 months and to get a referral to see a specialist you are looking at 6 months to a year.

When my mother had cancer she had to wait 6 weeks for a CAT scan and she had to travel 1 hour to another city to have it done.

This crappy system costs Canadian tax payers the equivalent of 11% of our GDP. Which for us works out to $172 Billion each year, which explains why are taxes are so unbelievably high. 11% of US GDP would equal 1.5 Trillion Dollars. Health care doesn't grow on trees - YOU are going to pay for that!

Oh well, Rush and I use to have very similar thoughts and views. I haven't listened to him in years. Hopefully people don't take their ideas from the media or entertainment sources but come to their own conclusions.

And no , he's not the leader or a part of the Republican leadership. This administration would rather try and smear opposition than face the problems of this nation. If things continue I see a change in our congressional make up in two years and the white house in four.

We pay for it now. And those wait times are probably not far from what people in the larger areas face here in the states. Why do the 10% not have family doctors?

I cant believe you SS, seriously, a person from Canada gets on here and tells us how bad it sucks, and his wife works in an ER and you are STILL going to argue with him? that is crazy.

Thats like telling someone not to put their hand in a pot of boiling water and them doing it anyway

Dude, I really think you have some denial issues. seriously, think about this. Our health care system is way better than that. People can get it if they really want to. The worse someone would have to do is join the military.

Health care benafits is one of the big plus's for being in the military.

So if there are options out there for everyone, why go to a system that is going to suck so much?

In "MOST" cases I would say lack of jobs and lack of health benafits are a personal choice, unless you are physcally disabled and not over 42 years old you can join the military and be employed and have health benafits for you and your family.

Thank you for your response, that was what we needed, someone from Canada who knows how it works to tell us how it is.

First off I was not arguing with him. He said we have to pay for it and I said we already do. I also said that the wait times he mentioned were probably not far from wait times in a large city hospital here. How is that possibly arguing with him?

As for our health care system, like I said it ranks 37th in the world and there are about 40 countries with lower infant mortality rates (even Cuba).

As for thanking him, how do you reply to the brother from Canada who commented about Canada's health care system in the other thread.

For comparison:

I can make an appointment and see my doctor msot of the time the same day. at the longest 1 week unless he is out.

If I need a specialist referal I usually get it within 1 week

On busy days my ER might take a few hours, but typically when I have gone in (hey bubba, hold my beer and watch this) I usually get in on a table within 20 minutes.

a few times as soon as I walked in they looked at my injury and rushed me back.

When I have need e-rays or cat scans, my doctor gives me a slip, I walk out of his office, go across the street to the rediology clinic and usually I am getting my X-rays within an hour.

Most of the people I know have the same type of health care access I do.

Why would I want to trade what I have, probably pay more money in taxes to have something like what Canada has? that is crazy..

It is great, that you have access to all that now what about the 40million Americans without health insurance?

This has nothing to do with what the idiot Lumbaugh said. 99 was kind enough to start a pretty good discussion on health care. You should check it out.

My mother doesn't have health insurance and had to go to the ER last year (3 times). She was seen immediately and has gotten the needed health care since then. So anyone that says they can't get health care without insurance just doesn't think they should have to pay for health care. These are the same POS that are mooching off of the government and us tax payers collecting welfare and not even looking for a job. I was told one time buy one of these POS "don't hate the player, hate the game". I told them that I hate the player for playing the game.

That's all the same for my health care in Canada, "cept I don't pay insurance, and the goverment covered the cost of my cancer drugs, sugery, tests and scans, and paid me for time off from work.

Anybody who can't find a family doctor in Canada is an idiot. There is three in my small town. Walk in clinic are avaiable in larger centers, free.

You must have a very good plan, Thrasher. I guy I work with had bad results come back after a colonoscopy. He has had to wait 5 weeks to get in and see someone. No plan is perfect, and to call a National Health plan a bad idea based on an example of one system is jumping to conclusions. It would be similar to calling motorcycles a bad idea based on a 1975 AMF (Voit ) Harley Davidson.

Thanks for the different example, Ken :beerchug:

I hope all is well with you now. God Bless.

I would like to ask a couple of questions and I am not trying to be snarky. :)
What is your tax rate?
Are you allowed second opinions?
Are you given a choice as to what specialist you can see?
Do people who rarely see the doctor pay the same tax rate as those who have cronic health issues and self inflicted health issues? (obesity, smokers etc...)
Does the Canadian govt pay for other insurances as well, such as car insurance and home owners insurance etc.....?

I will say this, nothing is free.
As for Rush, I don't listen to him. I like Bill O'Reily!!

If you liberals didn't have your heads so far up Obama's butt, you might realize that on occasion Rush makes some very valid points. But he doesn't agree with what our current administration is trying to do to the county so he must be a drugged out whack-job. We had better ban him from the radio before more people are influenced by the dark side.. :poke:

We are working on a "diversity bill" right now. We can't call it the "fairness doctrine" anymore.

We have to figure a way around the First Amendment you know.
