A buddy's wife calls me today telling me that he's getting laid off (union contract ending) but has another opportunity lined up, it's a type of Union work also but because of where he lives or doesn't live, he needs to show a local address - mine. Told her OK if it doesn't create any problems for me? I'm going through my own little employment thing etc etc thing and don't need any extra crap on my plate at the moment because of it.

Any thoughts?

I don't see how it could come back on you. Wouldn't it be on her if she's using an address that she doesn't live at? I still get mail from former roommates and the house's owner, DMV, credit info etc. I'm not liable for where their mail goes, so it sounds like you'd be okay.

We'll see what others think too...

dunno on the union side of things. I know my cars are registered in NC, my mail (even NC official stuff) goes to my mailing address in VA and my butt is on long island when I'm not travelling for work.

I think as long as they arent using the address for anything more than residence for a job you are good. If they start getting credit cards, bills or other random things in the mail, then I'd suggest putting an end to it quickly as those types of things could impact your credit rating, paticularly utilities. If you dont own the house, I wouldnt worry too much.

I say this because I had a german roommate in college. He thought BMG, Columbia House was the stuff... musta subscribed everyone from his town in Germany and got 1000's of CDs. Next time we went to add a new cable service, they hit us with a major deposit because of the credit issues at the address. :(
