If you take a look at the border between Canada and the US......it is completely impossible to shut it down, there are thousands and thousands of kms of nothing but forests with a 100 meter path cut through it as a border......

There's is no way in hell that border can be properly secured......

Me personally, I would have no issue building a wall along the Canada/US border similar to Mexico, and even arm it after what Trump has said and done. The US is no longer the friendly neighbour Canada thought it had, and this should reflect this. We should make America pay for the wall too.

The United States northern ambitions are nothing to be ignored either, as it would be smart for Canada to put armed soldiers in the North as well.

It's time Canada begins actively recruiting for the military in order to start arming it's northern and southern borders as we deal with ever escalating tensions in the US and more global eyes in the North.

Our border is far too vast to build a wall.....we have thousands and thousands of kms to cover.....in many places it's just a cleared area in the bush to signify a border......

Our military can recruit all it wants but we've limited our ability to train recruits that it would be pointless.....to add to these woes, our government has basically shut down all our recruiting centers forcing people who are interesting in joining having to travel sometimes hundreds of kms to apply.....

Stupidity at our finest....

However, we certainly need to finish that pipeline and get our oil and gas into a global market bypassing the US altogether......Trump don't need what we have, fine, other countries sure do and will pay.....

I agree the Canadian liberal government is crap, but the way Trump is acting I don't see a fair trade deal with the US regardless who is in power.

Trump seems to think he holds all the cards and can dictate what will happen.............Where as Canada has all the raw natural resources that supply the US manufactures and the manufacturing jobs. Like it or not, we here in Canada control the supply chain as we control the base minerals.

Only time will tell, but Trump has fired the first shot in anger.....................................I hope Canada's return salvo is just a ruthless and harsh, but I doubt it.

I think the term own is where he is being clumsy. I don't see a legal way to "buy" Gaza.

However what he proposes for the potential to build a stellar regional jewel is certainly right. Someone will have to rebuild Gaza. Someone will have to paid for that. Gaza certainly can't.

That war cost us billions. Rebuilding it more billions. I would endorse a plan where we rebuilt it, ran it, and got paid back over time. Like say a "lease". Whereby we aren't legal owners, but in control of its commerce and functions until we get paid back. Then hand it over. Similar to how we did the Panama Canal. Then Palestinians could be the owners. And have a solid positive economic place to thrive in.

I'm effin tired of pouring $$ down holes and getting zero benefit in return. If we don't rebuild it and try and have a solid presence there, someone else will. What happens if Iran or Russia volunteers to rebuild it? They will "own it" by proxy.

As I stated, I think the word own is a poor choice of words. The Palestinians could be the labor force. Here's what I feel. Trump is right about Gaza. It is currently un-inhabitable. The citizens can't live there already. Where would you propose they go if Gaza doesn't get rebuilt?

The idea that he eliminates Palestinians will be a no go for the other members of the region. I think he will have to give up on that idea of thinking Palestinians will never return. I think that's going to be a negotiable aspect he will have to find compromise in.

Should be yes..........................But much of these resources are held in private hands and sold off to the highest bidder to line the pockets of the few, while the country struggles. In my opinion ANY and ALL natural resources in Canada belong to the citizens of Canada, and we ALL should be benefiting from their sale, not just the lucky ones who bought the land knowing what was there and not telling the seller (Canada/citizens) about it.
