Hey Docdrop, Its probably 2 1/2 ??? by highway,but It would be the perfect day trip, up the blueridge and back, as it is basically part of it.Or hwy/BRP back.
We were detoured off(road closed)the BRP right at the access point to GFM ,after maybe 20 miles of getting on the BRp.
WE HAD PLANNED to ride the brp down on thur. but did GFM on a whim, as a bunch of bikers at the base said it was worth doing.
We then were detoured over the smokies via 40(forgot)which is a WHOLE nother story. 5 ETA now 8 30, chitty, but We did ride the smokys at dusk with little traffic and it was FUN.
Was good to run into you 2,chris at the CROT.

That whole area is full of first class roads.I had planned on going to Chimney Rock as an alternate plan to the BRP detour,but GFM was meant to be.
So that is another place to consider for a day trip.
I had plotted a trip along the lower part of the state from Robinsville to CR but it never happened.
One of about 4 trips not to be,never enough time!
