Not to mention that Charlie has accepted an offer to be a new track coach for STT!
Which means, that while he may be stuck nursing new riders in Novice, he will also be riding for FREE with huge tire discounts!

Sweeeeet! Thats Awesome! Free track days and discounted tires- what more could a guy want. Now I will have to make Barber with STT- get some one on one! :-)

Disalvo passing me coming out of the museum turn...starts around 35 seconds in. It's like he lit the afterburners as he entered the chicane, then gone!
Disalvo....but he's not on our team.

I don't think he ever lets off the gas...

I wish I'd had my camera on when he backed into 5...

So did I...:banghead: Seriously though, stepping into A group is nice shot of reality. I learned a good bit just watching and providing a pass test dummy to a lot of those guys.

The biggest benefit is the open track. A group doesn't wad up like I group. The pace is much more even. It provides lots of opportunity to work on different skills without having to work traffic every other turn.

Yea I can imagine. I am far from being in advanced group. But maybe by the end of this summer I may progress toward top of Intermediate. The great thing is there is always someone faster...gives me something to shoot for. Looking forward to seeing more video of you guys in A group.

Chris, just don't "let your ambition outweigh your skills"; not much fun to think about laying in a hospital bed...

Oh I am with ya there. ;-) Baby steps! I will ride in novice in a blink of an eye.. I try not to get caught up in what everyone else is doing- just as content to be on the track by myself- but I have learned how to sometimes latch onto someone just a tad bit faster than me and learn from them. I rode in novice most of last summer until last few track days then went to intermediate. Im ok with maybe never making it to A-group. I sure enjoy the track days tho. Actually thats an understaement I LOVE IT! Appreciate this thread as well. Thanks guys!

Riding in A group shows you what you need to improve on..... for me it was everything! Braking! Corner Speed! Suspension tweaking! Smoothness! Trust in yourself! Etc! Yes the pace is much more flowing too over I group! It also teaches you how to pass and to be passed! I had a rider hit me and a instructor hit me. I didnt freak and held my line, but they ride tight on you! Fun stuff!

Motorcycle - 1:23.664 - avg. speed - 115.474 mph - Mat Mladin - April 2008 (Barber Motorsports Park)

This is the time to beat fellas! When you reach a consistent lap time within ten seconds of the track record, you know you are rockin & Rollin with the advanced group!

Mat Mladin however, was in a unique group of riders known as the "Best of the Best"! :beerchug:

Don't think so....a man has to have goals and that time good sir, is not on my short list. I'm happy with where I am given my experience.

If the infamous "Team Gixxer" wants to trim your lap times down, mount your camera on the tank so the speedo, Tac & gear indicator shows at the bottom of the screen. With this information it's very easy to critique yourself with lines, gear selection, lean angle, corner entry speed (Compare all three riders against each other) throttle or power band management, exit speed (Including where the bike is pointed at the apex) weight transfer, braking points and the list goes on. With the camera mounted on the helmet it makes a fun video to watch but has limited bike control information.

All three of you fellas need to work on Power Band Management. At the 2-Fast school we have one complete classroom session on "Power Band Management"! Managing lean angle with the throttle as well as exit speed is as foreign to you guys as moon dust! :poke:

Whichever member of the "Team Gixxer" crew is willing to spend the time, money and effort to incorporate "Quality" instruction into his resume will become the quickest member in the group! :beerchug:

We have really got to work on getting you to open up around here Tuf. I worry that you keep too much pent up inside sometimes....:poke:

You need to come south this fall and offer up some 2-Fast coaching for the team at Barber.

You are absolutely correct! Setting realistic goals is a necessity.

However, my point was, it's not an unrealistic goal to trim another ten seconds off your lap times. I know exactly what you are thinking "Where in the hell am I going to find another ten seconds, I'm going as fast as I possibly can now"! I know, because I have mumbled those same words to myself on numerous occasions. But,,,,,,,,,,,as you learn more and more and the lap times come down little by little, two years from now you will be looking back going "Was I ever that slow"!

Those guys that pass you like you are backing up were once wearing the same shoes you are in and thinking how the hell do they go so fast!

Going out in I on Sat. Keith, don't show this one to Jimbo, he won't like it!

For the first few laps, this is what it would be like to own Barber Motorsports Park.
