After several months of back pain from herniated disc, and herniating another, I have been forced to take disability by my employer this morning. I'm on several medications that mess me up too much to drive without risking a wreck or DUI. When I drove to get my bike back from Corbin I had to do it with no pain intervention. I'm still paying for that in muscle spasms. Because of that it isn't a good idea to drive to work. I can't sit in a desk chair for more than a few minutes before pain starts to get the best of me. I have appointment in 11 days to meet with a spine specialist for evaluation for surgery, again.

I know it's for my own good, but it almost feels like I'm being punished. So, now I can ride, do any lifting, or even work at my desk job. I feel lost, but not hopeless. I know that a new opportunity will come along if I keep my head up.

I just want to pain to go away enough that I can have a reasonable quality of life.

:please::please::please:

I can't say that I know what you are going through. Stay stong and everything will work out in the end. If you ever need someone to talk to, there are plenty here that will listen. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

I think you meant to say "So, now I can't ride, do any lifting, or even work at my desk job."

Bummer. Sorry to hear that Tru. Hopefully this spine specialist will get you STRAIGHTENED out for real.

have you looked into getting botox injections for pain control? worked for my daily migrains

keep youre head up man... we go through everything for a reason and most of the time we don't know what that reason is until much later in life.

I am sorry you are still having these problems. I hope the doctors can do something to make it better for you. Just a thought, I have not done this myself, but have heard others have, but have you tried acupuncture? My back, thank God is not as severe, so just getting up and stretching and moving will loosen it most of the time. I do get the spasms and sharp pain shooting down the legs and hips, but it ususally dulls to a low "rumble" enough for me to accomplish a little bit during the day. Hang in there. Thoughts and prayers for you.

Doug you're truly a class act; one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting & dealing with.

Here's to you and your well-being...you deserve the best.

Keep your head up and dont give up. Give your body time to heal itself before you push it beyond repair. Pride can sometimes injure us further. I wish you the best my friend and I hope everything works out.

Hang in there brother, I know it sucks big time...but you need to be careful with your back. Hopefully the dr's will be able to fix you up and you can get back to a normal life.

Back pain is one of the things I fear the most, so I can only imagine what your going through. Hopefully it won't be too much longer that you have to endure it before a positive change takes place. :please:

I use pain meds ONLY when I have to. I tried a tens unit a few months ago with no positive results. Pressure against my spinal cord and the root nerves is the cause. I've had allergic reactions to several mads, so my body must be self regulating to avoid addiction.

Hopefully I can get work to start my long-term disability. That way it doesn't count against me. I've been one of the most productive employees for over 9 years and I would hate for that to get thrown down the drain because of an injury.

Thank you. I always try to treat people how I wish to be treated. I do slip once in a while, but I try.

Thanks to Mike, Micheal, Greg and the rest of the Corbin family, I have one of the most beautiful and strikingly awesome sport-touring bikes sitting in the garage collecting dust. :poke:

Please thank Greg for finding and shipping my gloves to me. It would be a shame to buy and break in another pair since they don't use kangaroo hide anymore.

Have they considered a pain pump? I have a friend who is having one implanted so that he does not have to use pills for pain mitigation as the doctors were worried about damage to his liver. This provides a minimal amount of total dose pain med to the area that is damaged while limiting the effect on the total body?

Until you start to feel better, throw up posts on anything that is on your mind. The amount of comments you get back should be more entertainment that you would get off pay per view and it keeps you engaged. If you need direct help, you know you got peeps in the area both on this forum and the PNW forum who can help. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Hang tough...it will get better!

This is my extended family. Lots of great peeps here. Mostly I'm venting out of frustration. I know there will be something coming along soon. It's been slow going with the VA. They can give me a referral to another hospital, but they won't cover the expense. My personal insurance won't cover it because my back has "pre-existing conditions" from my time in the Army, and I can't afford to pay it out of my pocket. If my insurance would cover it I would have gotten my back fixed properly several years ago. Now with my employer forcing me to take medical leave I feel like I have nothing to contribute to. I know that doesn't define me, although it gives me something to do to pass the days while I wait. My current choice is to sit in some very uncomfortable work chair for several hours a day, or remain home bound looking at the same walls all day and night. :banghead:

It sounds a lot like we have the same injuries... Where are your injuries, as in what vertabrae? My doctor prescribed zanaflex or tizanadine which is not a narcotic, it is not addictive and I have to tell ya that it makes the spasms go away. I take one before I go to bed and there is no grogginess or blurry vision at all, no side effects at all. I get great sleep and the muscles and nerves relax... Your condition sounds so familiar and I didnt get any relief until the first night I took the meds....

I too have a tens unit and it depends on where the spasms are at if it works... An hour in the hot tube followed by a zanaflex and Im good for a couple days....

See if your doc will let you try it! I forgot to mention a 90 day supply is only 10 bucks at walmart~! It made a huge change in my day to day life....
