Thanks guys for the pointers.. I'm going for the blue and silver 2K busa, but just couldn't help how good the 1999 Yellow TL1000R looked...

I had a 98 TL1000R and it was a good light bike, nice sounds out of the pipe and from 40mph till Red Line hang on this bike rips.My TL-R had no mods to it and I thought it was faster than my 89 Gsxr1100 and handled better than the old GSXR.The TL-R had it's down side,it would sometimes bog down or die if you got on it from a dead stop, was hot under the seat from the rear pipe coming up close to the frame also the rear pipe would get red hot if stopped in traffic or redlight. The bike handled good in the rain and the brakes where really good and would also conner good.
I bought the Hayabusa due to the fact that I wanted something that was fast, looked different and had to be a GSXR type bike and I have no regrets getting this bike at all.My old 98TLR cost $10,200 out the door back in 98 and my 99Hayabusa cost $11,023 out the door and for that price on the Hayabusa you get 159rwhp stock, can't beat that.Good Luck on your search and Happy New Year.

I had a blue white 98 TL1000R. I didn't get a chance to test ride it before I bought it, nor did I hear it idle first. If so, I wouldn't have bought it. I wasn't used to V-Twins and did not realize the difference between inline fours and V-twins. I loved the power and the looks of the pipes. I got a ton of compliments at every stop light. I did not like the thumpy hesitation that come from V-Twins. No clock, no fuel guage, and the seat was hard as rock.
The TLR was a light bike, but the busa is a monster all around. I wouldn't even compare the bikes. I can't compare a V-twin with an inline, because the feeling is so different. I ended up totaling my TLR at an intersection when someone ran a red light. I was going to get another TLR until the salesman told me about this 1300CC powerhouse. So I waited and got one of the first busa's in Buffalo. Sorry for the novel.

...it seems quite a few Buas owners have had the TLR as well, including myself, and most of us like that bike just fine...it was a comfy ride for me and I loved the sound of the engien through the Yosh exhaust...the TL is much lighter on it's "feet" that the Busa to be sure, but the Busa is more stable at speed...this is a funtion of the wheel base and frame geometry of the respective morcycles... both suspensions have proven to be very adjustable and suprisingly good for a street bike that cost so little...although dealing with a clapped out rear suspension is more problimatical on the TL, there are several good solutions to that now and I would not let that stop me from getting a TLR...in fact, I would buy one if I could afford to, a yellow one to be sure, even in the face of Honda's new RC51...but I had to sell mine to buy the Busa, and forced to choose , have stuck with the Busa...the power, comfort, and style are a worth while trade off to me for the nimbleness of the TL...like I noted on many occasions, many Busa owners were TL owner before...Have any gone the other way, or back to a TL from a Busa? Just don't get the Idea the TL is "slow"...it is sneaky fast, and sounds very difeent than a shieking four...it will rip the lungs out of 97% of the steet bikes out there with any kind of rider on it, and placed well in it's first and only year of raceing...not too shabby in my book...
