Great pic. You should have taken out a shirt from one of you bags and put that under your kick stand to prevent the stand from sinking or just lay it on its side. That does the trick too...

Not sure how that would have made a difference. The kickstand is on the left side. Had it sunk in, it would be on the left side not right

I'm not one to shy from taking my bike down a gravel road and have taken it on several dirt and gravel roads for miles without much of an issue. In this case though, that bit is really soft dirt.

I saw the sign off in the distance (about a mile or so down a dirt road). Most of the way down the road I spotted a slightly rutted spot which turned out to be soft dirt (lots of dirt trails in northern Nevada). The next spot had a rut in the middle of the track and the other side looked worse so I took the higher ridge to the right of the rut (you can't really see the rut from this angle). Turns out it was all very soft dirt and I plowed the front. Fortunately because of the last patch, I was already going pretty slow. It fell over and my foot got stuck. I had to throw myself off the bike to get my foot out. I tried to lift it but the dirt was so soft the bike just slid. I had Rita come down and put her foot at the front wheel to keep it from sliding. I took off the Givi trunk. I tried to get it up several times but I couldn't get the leverage because it was leaning on the bank. I had to let it slide a little more so I could get my foot down next to the bike. I grabbed it by the handlebar and seat and Rita grabbed the left bar and I hefted it back upright. She put the kickstand down and I went a few feet up to the next "dry" spot and turned her around.

Oh, and the sign? This is a Birds of Prey area and it was a warning not to disturb any nests, etc.



There really wasn't any damage to the bike. Just a bunch of dust. The cool thing was the little bug splats. If you look at the dust, you can see little clean spots where bugs hit the bike while riding. Learn something new with every encounter

It was lots of fun. It's one of the reasons I bought a dual-sport (Honda TransAlp) a couple of months back. Too bad I was riding the 'busa at the time

I've done dirt roads quite often and the bike handles pretty well. This is the first time I encountered this dust/dirt. It was very soft and powdery. Next time I'll know to just stick to the middle of the patch

My wife chuckled when she saw the bike. She asked if I thought I was on the TransAlp.

Wellll, no further damage. I've dropped her on either side already. Once when I was taking her off of the rear stands (forgot to put the kickstand down) and once when I was putting her on the rear stands. If you look at the upper opening there's a crack that runs about 8 inches.

It just adds character
