The dark side of the web

long live castration....

Funny that this should be brought up, one of the local news channels did an "undercover sting" where they pretended to be a 13 year old female in a chat room, rented a house, and eventually invited these predators over where they had hidden cameras everywhere. They showed these @$$holes showing up expecting the 13 year old girl and getting a camera shoved in their faces. Most of these guys stood and made lame excuses, one was in the Air Force and he took off, got in his truck and drove away but last I heard he was in custody of the MP's.
It was very disturbing, most places it's ok if the cops pose as kids to lure predators. It is a FEDERAL crime if either the emails or predators cross state lines. That is how these $hit$ need to be prosecuted.

See how sad the situation is though?  You could have a thousand of us on there trying to "lure" these guys, and you'd have 4000 guys on the line...it's a rampant problem...don't know if there have always been guys/gals (let's not assume it's just men) like this in this number, or has the web just "created the opportunity" allowing on peoples' twisted minds to run wild?
It's not new.  But it is a lot more prevalent today than it was before the Internet.

Part of it is the access the Internet affords.  You have some people who otherwise might be too scared of the consequences bathing in the anonymity of the Internet.  And yes, women do it too.  And some people who wouldn't otherwise have the thought occur to them, stumble across information on the Internet.

I think that the number who would actually do it given the chance, would be staggering.  In the hundreds of thousands, perhaps even a million.  Think about how only half of the country actually has internet access.

Would probably be a good thing if most parents in this country started doing what Brian is doing.  There are not enough computers in enough precincts in this country to get all of them.  And it would put a damper on it if the media got wind of a such a massive sting operation.

Edit: Forgot to mention the 2 big issues that are in that article. TELL YOUR CHILDREN NOT TO GIVE OUT THEIR HOME ADDRESS. And they have to get your permission before meeting anyone they met online. So few parents teach their kids to do that these days.
