tank protection

hello to everyone. i've following these discussions since about June, when i first started considering buying the busa. i want to say thank you to you all for the wealth of knowledge you have passed on to me. i just picked up my black and grey busa this morning and though its 40 degrees i still needed to drive it about 80 miles. my question is that i'm looking for input on how best to protect the tank. i have seen the the tank bras was wondering if they generate those hazy, scratchy areas like the car bras did on the hoods of the vehicles they were on. i have also seen what appears to be self adhesive rubber/foam patches, but don't know if they adversely affect the underlying paint. i would appreciate any advice or experience you guys have on this matter. thanks and keep up the good work.

Had Kevlar protective patches on mine and they did a great job, until I got use to the busa and started moving around the tank more in corners. If you're going to push the performance on the bike the patches won't help alot. I now have a bagster tank bra covering the whole tank. Fits good, looks great and being plain black it complements the original busa colour and the new carbon cowling. No problems with it affecting surrounding paintwork.

Any of the bra's will work. I've got Suzuki's version and its just fine. The issue is how well you keep the bra clean and dry. Any grit, mosture, etc. between the bra and the paint will produce scratches. Buy anything that suits your fancy and keep it free of grit and you'll have no problems.

I don't know if this will work or not but it will be tried soon on my copper beauty. Yes the adhesive pads move around especially on hot summer days. I hate them. The bras collect moisture under them and screw up the paint underneath.

My solution is to consult with my painter and come up with one tough mother paint and cover
an area on the tank starting ahead of the seat, flairing up to the gas tank cover and forward to the steering stem. Maybe trunk paint, maybe the stuff they spray in pickup beds, maybe epoxy type paint. No adhesive loosening, no bras fraying/ collecting moisture, and the area ahead of the filler cap where my helmet bangs down into the tank gets covered too (yes it is showing marks now).

Ribusa... a word of caution... no mattter which style tank cover you choose (I have a black and grey 'Busa and like the two tone Second Look bra) if it gets wet during a brief shower... don't leave it on in the sun! The heat generated will cloud your paint.
