Sturgis with lots of crashes, first day. I believe there are three fatalities so far.

Interesting, they had some good coverage on TV, but all the riders are pretty senior. I might still be a little to young to go there. :D

I wish no harm to anyone...but if you ride with no gear, and no helmet, or a plastic turtle shell on your head, and especially if you're riding in an area full of drunks on 2 and 4 wheels at a massive party...then things happen...people are shocked...and suddenly motorcycles are dangerous...

I’ve heard that the thing to do is to show up a few days early while vendors are setting up. Then stay for the first day to get the full experience.

I’d like to do it. But at 1,200 miles one way, it will have to wait until retirement.

Lodging prices quadruple for the event and other than tent city or tiny wooden box type shelters, the nicer places want more than a one night reservation. It’s about 1,300-1,500 miles from here. I rode out that way a month before the rally one year taking in Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse monument and Devils Tower. It’s pretty sparse out that way, no trees to speak of, no rivers alongside the road, no twisty mountains to climb. So, I looped up thru northern Montana and Glacier NP on my way back. This was on a previous CBX, about 30 years old at the time. My only bike ‘issue’ was the low beam filament burnt out somewhere NE of Cody WY on a moonless night. I’d planned to stay in Cody after spending the day in the Park but this was before I started making reservations. Turned out there was a championship rodeo in town and the nearest lodging was in Sheridan, 150 miles away. Thank goodness for high beams!

There is an event here called the Friday the 13th event at Port Dover, Ontario.....there are 100,000 bikes that show up to this tiny little hamlet and take it over....

A neighbor went last year, he booked a year in advance and was just lucky to get a place because everyone books a year in advance....

He said they were 10 blocks from the event centre and walked leaving their bikes where they were as it was next to impossible to navigate the streets...
