my guess: engine got starved of oil (when you shifted into neutral) and shutdown (hence the oil light)...failsafe mechanism to prevent damage to the engine.

+1 for Kromdom, And the rapid decell w/failsafe shut off may have Momentary flooded the FI because of the loss of fire.

his oil light was from the engine not running with the key on. It was looking for oil pressure and there was zero. Oil is circulated/pressurized by a mechanical pump, even missing a shift and hitting neutral the bike should maintain oil pressure. The higher you rev it the faster the pump spins and the more oil you move.
