Anyone catch the Sport Rider magazine's street tire comparison?
Looks like the Dunlop Qualifier got the overall highest rating. Anyone concur with that?

If I remember correctly, it didn't sound like they would last too long. I just hope they are better then the 208s they replaced. I think I'll stick with my pilot powers.

I read that article and than put my order in for some pilot powers. Heck, I cant even purchase the Dunlop around here yet & would like to see some real world input from Busa riders before I put my $$$ into the Dunlop. The tests performed on the Dunlop were on a 600 & 1000 bike, not a Busa. From everything Ive read around here the Michelin Pilot Power is hard to beat & people seem to get excellent mileage out of them. The Dunlop sounds like it may be a little soft and wear quickly. Should be intresting to hear feedback from members here once the tire hits the street.

Having ridden my Busa most of last year on the Continental RoadAttacks, I was curious to see what they thought of them. Not much, as it turns out. I find that hard to understand, for they changed the handling of my bike tremendously for the better and the front doesn't follow grooved pavement nearly as much as the OE front tire. My son also put a set on his R6 replacing 208s and raves about them. And so far, they're wearing like iron on both bikes.

Oh well, I guess Sport Rider and I will have to agree to disagree about them!

After reading it, still not enough said to sway me from my M1's. The first part says it all, don't go by ratings alone. Need to read between the lines and really examine your own riding preferences. These guys are out tearing it up, if you don't run like that, you may be dissapointed when you only get 2500 miles out of a track/street tire. The M1 would not be my choice if I ran mostly straight roads and did alot of touring, it's going to be bald as my wife's....(sorry, let's not go there) in the middle and tons of tread on the sides. It's all about how you ride!

Yep tires seem to be like a pair of shoes for both the bike and rider. You will get a ton of differing opinions. I like the powers but would like to try the new dunlops. Most tire comparo's are done on the track by some real knee draggers/ part time racers. For the rest of us I really like the real world test's on road bikes, gives a better over all analysis.

Now ... do you think I could talk dunlop into letting me try a comp'd set

Personally I didn't think much of the artical. Well, if you want tires that work on the street, but are really designed for a track day but not full blown racing tires then OK. But I ride on the street and 2500 miles or less for tires in the $140 + range is a little stiff for someone like me who rides about 12,000 to 18,000 miles a year

.

I can think of more farkles and stuff to buy for my comfort and enjoyment on the Busa than tires every 2,500 miles

Qualifiers aren't out yet, we have to wait until Jan.

I thought that was one of the best comparisons done lately. The fact that they did part of it on the streets is something they rarely do! If you want more than 3,000 miles out of your tires, you'll not likely find a tire comparison done from a sport bike magazine because what you're looking for is not sport riding.

I'm very interested in the new qualifiers, but I haven't found one problem with pilot powers.

My new bike came with 014's. Excellent tire but I am in need for new tires on my bus and will be putting on the Dunlop Qualifiers.

but I must disagree ! I got more than 3,000 (actually 4,500 rear to 6,000 front) miles on my Ducs and TLR. And one thing I can assure you is that I don't sports tour on any of them (of course I don't do track days on the same tires I ride on the street either). I do use Mich Pilots though and think they're the best tires I've ever had. Of course I don't ride the Busa like I ride my sports bikes

Didn't mean to suggest 3,000 miles as a hard number.

I meant that if your looking to get say more than 4500ish and you ride at tracks or in the canyons aggressively I haven't found a tire out there that will last that long.  Of course I don't use sport touring tires, but I've never gotten more than 3600 miles out a front or rear tire(since I moved to SoCal).  Normally the left side wears out to the wear mark first for me.

And most tire comparisons I've seen are done at the track.  So someone looking for a tire that will last long won't find the info they want from a track tested tire comparison.

On my last set of powers I got 3200 miles.
But I do enter corners decently fast and love to power out of them!

I totally agree

, that's why I said, "for ME the test wasn't very informative" since I use track tires at the track !
