I was out today and notice speed traps everywhere...

Later talked to a guy at work and told me about this story from last week.

London man on motorcycle clocked by OPP at 220 km/h

PORT STANLEY -A 52-year-old London man is charged under the province's stunt driving legislation after Elgin OPP clocked a motorcycle travelling almost three times the posted speed limit Sunday evening.

Officers say they observed a motorcycle travelling 220 km/h on Union Road near Smith Road in Southwold Tow nship just before 9 p.m. The posted speed limit is 80 km/h.

Other OPP officers were contacted and a vehicle matching the description was stopped at Carlow Road and Bridge Street in Port Stanley.

As a result, a London man was charged and his 2009 BMW motorcycle impounded for seven days. He has also been handed a seven-day driver's licence suspension and a summons to appear in court on July 23.

Under the province's Safer Roads Act, the maximum fine for drivers who go more than 50 km/h over the posted speed limit is $10,000.

Const. Troy Carlson of Elgin OPP can't recall if any driver has been caught travelling that fast in Elgin before.

"Obviously the ramifications for the driver alone are extreme. Hitting a raccoon or anything for that matter, it's so easy to lose control at that speed ... you really don't have time to react to anything. One minor mistake could result in a fatality," he stressed.

"Coupled with the fact that you've got other people on the road. It's not like a racetrack where people are going one way. You've got innocent people out there and it's very dangerous."
