Doing spark plugs, tried to search and I can't find the torque spec on the forum... I'm not at home and don't have my manual with me. Anyone?

Thx guys. I'll be burning the pdf service manual on a cd and throwing it in with my owners manual in the hump so I don't have this problem again.

Hand tight until it bottoms then a quarter to half turn more. I see too many people over tighten then strip the threads. Then you know what happens after you strip the threads. Same with the stripped oil pans. Been there Done that. Always think ahead. Know what material you are working on. If your tightening a bolt on cast iron or aluminum heads or oil pans and tighten accordingly.

1/4 turn past first contact with the seating ring or crush washer.

It almost feels like it's not enough but remember, there are a lot of threads on a plug and they'll be fine with a quarter turn.

yep, the last 2 posts... with one caveat... a new plug vs a used plug... the 1/4 turn caves the crush washer and if you are reusing a plug, the seal is already flat, you only want a 1/16 to an 1/8 of a turn after contact.. I call it a "snuggy", run the plug down by hand, take the socket and "snug" the plug down..

maybe a Wrenching 101 for sparkplug installs?

I don't reuse plugs. They're too cheap to replace to take a chance. Just like I don't reuse an oil drain plug crush washer unless I'm in desperate need.

When you're tightening a new plug you can actually feel the crush washer squishing and then the force to turn the plug increases significantly all at once. I've used this method on cars... tighten slowly until it gets more difficult. Never stripped a plug before. But with the bike I wanted to go by the book.
