If you don't know the name Will Prowse, you might want to have a look at his channel. He does a great job of recommending all of what your asking about. Best battery values, performance, rip offs etc.

Batteries are coming down in price if you know where to look.

So Cap hear this out a bit. I have and still contemplate living off grid on a sailboat. What is becoming more and more interesting are the use of Tesla car batteries for solar storage and inversion to home use. Installed on a boat, they take up less space than Lithium, store more energy and the cost per killowat is declining.

They are being adapted for this use by aftermarket companies EVTV being one. The main concern is BMS which is being tackled.

Tesla at the moment has the best batteries going. You just have to live with cobbling together a system designed around them.

It's the best bang for the buck on a boat. What holds many back is that it isn't Coast Guard approved. So you can't insure a boat that has them.

There was some early concerns for voltage runaways that caused fires. Remember the early Tesla fires?

That by and large is solved on the aftermarket now.

I went the cheap(est) route. The van has a single AGM house battery (powers the winch that hauls the Busa up into the van) at 92 ah. I'll eventually add a second battery in parallel and then add more farkles. But in the meanwhile, I've installed a $40 Amazon BMS (pics). Shunt comes with the BMS, wiring does not.

He does know his sh1t. He details the component-building of a DIY Lith battery system that might interest @captain. Had I the patience I'd build it cuz it's a measurable $avings. But individual cell balancing seems to be a requirement in order to promote longevity and that's where Prowse lost me. More study/research required.
