Here's what I think is the best solution to the need for a stand. Purchase a spool type track stand for when you want to work on your bike at home. A good spool type track stand can provide a very secure work platform especially if you have the front brake locked/strapped.
For the road, the Quick Stand concept is definitely the way to go. No extra weight to carry around with you on the bike, no problems with ground clearance and they are relatively inexpensive. For the guys with new bikes, Quick Stand could help out with the chain lubrication at home until you felt you needed the full size track stand. Just my entirely biased opinion.....
