update: The headlight bulb was fried. So I replaced it with a silverstar and it seems fine now. The tail didnt go crazy after I messed with it. I pulled on the wires and one of them seemed pinched between the tail and undertail... So far so good....

A mechanic friend came over today and we set out to find the gremlin. It was the starter button sticking!!!!!!!!!!!!
Problem solved.
