There's a fellow in my area who has a '99 copper/silver bike that he bought new and still rides it.....

It is one of the few Hayabusas in the area...I believe there are three and are of each generation oddly enough....

I've spoken to him a few times and he just looks at it as another bike......one he likes and rides......he has no interest in it's worth or status amongst motorcycles......I kind of find that interesting as there has been a lot of hype built up around that particular bike as it is the iconic representation of the Hayabusa...

I still say Suzuki screwed up by not making it's color scheme the 25th anniversary edition instead of the orange one they did make for some strange reason........I've never equated orange with a Suzuki color......

The orange/black 2008, the first year of the Gen2, was the first Gen2 color that Suzuki released...so they decided to throw back to the Gen2 for the Gen3 anniversary color.
But, I agree, they should've went to the gold/silver Gen1.
I wonder if the red/black '99 was Suzuki's first Gen1 color too?
Even though they used the gold/silver bikes for most of the press.

When I looked it up, apparently the silver/gold color was the launch color...the other colors were offered after the launch.....
