ok i have a 01 s-10 that i use to haul my bike when needed. i have some flate plate that has been put in place of the stock tailgate cables, works like a champ. i can unbolt them and put the cables back in place when i want, but my question is.... do they sell something similar to what i have made that will allow me to open and close the tailgate but still have the strength the flat plate has ?? ...... oh they are bent because my friends at work just tried to pick up my truck from the tailgate and the plate folded a lil bit !!!

 hey they made them out of a hinged strap in the 70's and today you can buy "cable" style that will hold up just fine..

The early strap type could be folded "up" until the holes aligned on the gate, then pull the strap off the pin and let the gate drop (strap would just hang from truck bed)

will see if I can find photo..

This is a 70's Ford pickup.. he is releasing the strap from the bed here but I think you can get the idea.. you could build your own or just rummage some truck yards to find them..

Why not get a piece of plywood that is the same length as the bed including the tailgate, mount your chock to it, and then your bikes weight will not be on the tailgate?
