Repair a warped brake rotor?

If a brake rotor gets a warp in it, say from a bit of carelessness in handling the wheel while it is off the bike, is it possible to "re-true" the rotor, or must it be replaced?

What can happen with such a warp is that there is excessive runout as rotor rotates, and the runout pushes piston back into caliper, resulting in a mushy brake lever.

Since we owners are a thrifty bunch, I was wondering if anyone has had good results when attempting a repair of a warp.

Just my guess, but I would think that the best fix would be replacement.
