Remapping question

While out at Laguna I noticed that my bike was starting to (what I thought was) burn oil. Well, I found out that it was running very rich. I got it in to a shop today and they re-remapped it. I had it done once before about two years ago.
Now for the questions.
1) Is it normal to have to go back and remap after time or should it be good to go without any further action?
2) He told me that is was way to rich so he leaned it out 5% and then slowed down the injectors by 2%. He told me by slowing down the injectors a little the bike will have a lot more power. Unfortunately they don't have a dyno to confirm the numbers. Does this sound right? I haven't had a chance to ride it yet so I can't tell you if I notice a difference yet.

every engine in the world wears. they all wear differently. some will burn 1 quart of oil between oil changes while the next one will burn one teaspoon.
same goes for fuel. wear, temperatures, humidity, different gas, etc.

good for you that you actually care to take action.

something else to consider is have you ever changed your battery or had it changed??  dont know if it is true but a buddy told me that if you remap the stock computer via suzuki and change the battery (ie no power at all) it resets back to the factory defaults (much like resetting a car's computer) could be just a bunch of bull but maybe not?!?! anyone know for sure/have any experience with this?? also how many miles total on your bike?? and how many since the last time it was mapped?

11,534 miles and about 10,000 of those are on the old remap. As for the battery thing IT'S JESTER'S FAULT.

JUST KIDDING.
When his bike died in CA we pulled my battery out to try in his bike. That is the first time I have had it totally dead from the day I bought it. Does anybody know if this is the case?

Cache, Yes I do. My bike may not be the cleanest thing on the road but I try to keep it running good.

Removing the Battery will not cause the map in the pcr to be lost. I made that mistake once.........Thought I lost my map and the went to reload and found it was there all the time.... I would suggest that you download your current map onto your hard disk or casette and keep it for safe keeping.

I don't know how they "tune" without using a dyno?

??

I have heard that some pcrIII have had problems with a faulty resistor that will cause the map to be corruptrd over time causing subsequent problems. They'll warrantee it if that's the case but proving it ain't a walk in the park.

I have used submitted maps from Power commander (K&N.....Duplex) Kinda fun to try out the maps.....and have actually found one to be as good as my dynoed map and the roll on feels much smoother than the paid for map. I've been using it for several months now and am very pleased with it. very predictable out of corner roll ons.........really confidence inspiring

yep this is true.
what are they tuning with?
also what do they mean lean 5% out and injectors by 2%
What are they using something doesn't sound correct

I'm not really sure exactly what they did. When I called they and asked if they could do it they told me yes and that they have done a lot of them. I didn't find out until they were almost done with it that they didn't have a dyno. The adjust it using a emission tester to set the mixtures and then test drive it and fine tune it based off maps that they have. All I can say is I'll just have to ride it and see what happens.
