Radar goes right thru your body so it can even detect radar from behind. 
Sooo now that the radar is solved....anyone ever checked out the laser jammers?
Not yet. I know radar jammers are illegal, and involve FCC regs, and possible high fines. Never heard of laser jammers being illegal. If they work, that would be great. I've never encountered any cops using lidar. I think the problem is that they are useless past 300 yards (maybe it was feet), because they have to be low powered enough to not scorch peoples retinas per FCC. Same thing for laser aiming systems on weapons. That makes them questionable to me, because aiming with a 500 miliwatt beam would be hard to see in daylight. Military weapons probably don't fall under the same rules.
Also, lidar has a really small beam at any useable range. Still, the idea of jamming lidar makes the idea attractive. "Radar Roy" pitches stealth coatings for the front hot spots on a vehicle. I'd like to see a real world test of this. If it looks anything like military stealth coatings, it would be fugly.
In radar there are X, K, Ka, and Ku. I've never heard of how well Ku band works, but Escort doesn't detect it, while Valentine One claims to. There is also POP radar which I can find very little info on.
The locals in Idaho mostly don't use radar detectors, so cops leave their radar on most of the time. That makes them light up on radar detectors from a long way away. The people here also drive maddeningly slow. I often find myself driving between two lanes of cars going in the same direction just to get out of second or third gear.
They act like automatons righteous in their obedience of traffic laws. Sometimes two or more vehicles will decide to enforce the law by slowing traffic behind them. I've found the trick is to find the right gear and hammer the throttle so that they don't have time to drift into that phantom lane. When I pass my wife like this, she says it has a buffeting effect, like the wake of a missle. I never have time to pay attention to their faces, but I can imagine the indignation.
Anyway, in helmet peripheral radar warning is the way to go. You never have to take your eyes off the road, which is a good thing.
Anyone prefer Valentine, Escort, or Bell over other brands? They can't offer 100% protection, but just one ticket will pay for them IMHO.
