PSI on front tire?

Folks,

Left for the weekend and came back to a front tire at 16psi. Tire is relatively new, and I was unable to locate any damage/tears. I put some air in it yesterday and will check tonight when I get home to see if it held the air. While putting the air in, I wasn't sure how much to add. I saw on the tire what looked like a max of 42psi, but that seemed a little much for me. I put 36psi in there. Forget the brand otherwise I am sure this would be much easier... But ballpark, how much pressure for a front tire?

My tires also spec 42, but I run 38 on the street front and back, 30 front and back for the track.

If you look on the tire I think you'll find "Max pressure 42psi"?

Or, it will say "Max Load xxx at 42psi"
