A few weeks ago I was pulling the busa out of the wheel chock for a litle ride and I felt somethng bump my foot. Well it was a speckeled king snake! About 5 foot long. I just let it go by (Why take a chance) and went on my ride.

Snakes and Spiders are our friends, no way around it. I'll escort the Roaming/Hunting spiders out of the house post haste, but the web slinging corner dwellers are welcome to stay. We've got a couple of big mothers by the front porch light and they do a heck of a business out there killing EVERYTHING insect like coming up to my door. Grew up with Black Widows, They were kinda scary but we used to feed them bugs and yeah, they are excellent at keeping your place clear of pests.

Snakes do the same thing, on a bigger scale. They keep the rodents and large bugs out. Not so important here in Washington but when I was in Tampa it was welcome assistance. Coolest part was that the Black racer in the garage had access to the entire house by going in between the walls. I even found snake poop in the attic when I was moving out.

It's cool to be afraid or nervous around snakes and spiders. It's our Caveman instincts keeping us alive. Just remember not to kill them, they do a whole lot of good. If they are in your house just remove them carefully. We have BIG spiders up here called oddly enough "Giant House Spiders". They are creepy and they are predatory so you'll see them motoring along the carpet, so I just gently get them in a Jar and relocate them, put them somewhere outside where they can hunt without giving me the heebie geebies...

Used to keep snakes, tarantulas, fish.  Love the menageries.

We used to allow the black widows to live in the garage because they eat cockroaches.  We also used to allow the daddy-longlegs to live because they eat ants.  Never had an ant or roach problem.  Ever.  Of course, if we had kids, we would have felt a lot differently about the black widows, guaranteed.

I always dump my shoes befoer putting them on. Growing up in rural areas made it mandatory and the habit has stuck. 'Specially since I usually leave my boots and helmet out in the garage, ya gotta shake 'em out. Never know when a snake or scorpion or spider may have taken up residence during the night.

Can't live in Florida if you are scared of snakes. I grew up there. Caught a cotton mouth here in MO sunning next to my pool. My wife freaked out, pinned it's head with my foot and picked it up to throw it over my fence. Refused to kill it and wife was mad for days. Dog got one this summer and tore it up pretty bad. Was worried he got bit but was fine. Had to kill that one. We have lots of Black snakes in out back yard, I love them, keep the bugs in line. Northern posionious snakes are wusses though. Diamond backs in Florida will chase your azz down to bite ya.

Living in the sticks is not for the weak of stomach.

Watch "Lonesome Dove" some time and you'll see what I mean!

I would much rather run across a spider or snake than one of these....I got stung by one and it hurt like a mug! I get the creeps just thinking about it.
