I called Progressive from the Suzuki dealer's showroom the Saturday that I bought my new Bus because they were the only insurance company that I could get in touch with on a Saturday afternoon. First the guy says $94 a year, which I knew could not e right, then after another try he comes up with $1900 a year. I am 37 years old, homeowner, married for 13 years. I didn't have much choice, so I gave him my cash card number and made him run it for the $267 that he wanted to get me up and running. I thought about it over the weekend, and I just wasn't comfortable with these people, so on Monday I made one call and saved myself $800 and got a smaller deductible. I called Progressive on Saturday (one week later) and cancelled. They said that they would send me my refund check. About a week later, I instead got a statement from them demanding ANOTHER $380 for the week that they insured me. They said that it was due to an "at fault" accident on my DMV report, and the tone of the conversation was very different than before they had the ability to extort money out of me. I told them that the "at fault" accident that they referred to was last year during spring break when a 22 year old kid floored it to try to beat a red light and T-boned me going about 55 miles an hour according to the witnesses. Kid was cited by the police for speeding and blowing the light. Progressive says that it was up to me to provide "proof" that the accident was not my fault, but it's a moot point now because once I cancelled the policy, it is not possible to make any changes. They also want to jack me for 10% of the "new and improved" yearly premium. The other two insurance companys that I do usiness with appear to have had no trouble figuring out the DMV report, but it appears to benefit Progressive financially to not be able to figure out the DMV report. DMV says that Progressive has been warned about pulling this stunt before. I'm filing a complaint with the state Insurance Comission. I wanted to warn you all and hopefully save someone else some headaches.

Progressive does not have a fan either. When I moved from PA to VA, they dropped me because I didn't let them know until I had moved. Okay, so I was suppose to give them what address?? Two months later they sent me a renewal notice. I called asked for the manager and then requested his boss. When I got him, I blasted him and his company. He inquired why I needed to go so far up the chain of command. I said because that's what he gets paid for. Why blast the poor rep that has nothing to do with the policies that are written. It probably did no good except to make me feel better. But I'll never go back to them again. By the way, I got the same quote from them when I was shopping for insurance on a 1300. No accidents, no tickets, 37 and married. I beat their quote buy $1000.00 with GEICO then even better with Nationwide $490.00 / yr.

Thanks for the insurance advice on State Farm, Nationwide and GIECO. Thank you especially for the warning about Progressive. My auto insurance underwriter unfortunately only offers Progressive for motorcycle coverage. They quoted me like over $1000/yr., and if I wanted payments, it would be evenly split up only over the first 4 months. When I get my 'Busa, it will definetly NOT be with them anyway, because of a rip off-type of bad experience I had with them, similar to what is described here. Apparently there was a hit and run accident in Miami, FL on Super Bowl weekend of '99, and the victim gave my car's tag number as the hit and run vehicle, along with a description of a different vehicle. My car was at my mechanic friend's house for a several month period at that time, and I've never even been to Miami! Progressive sent me a letter telling me of my responsibility to pay the damages. After I contacted them and told them the truth, they sent an investigator to check out my "story" with my mechanic. After all this, we were told the case would be closed. Then, in May 2000, I got a letter from Progressive telling me I was responsible to pay $9K damage in this same accident. Needless to say I was furious. Now they say they have dropped the case, but I'm wondering how long before I hear from them again. When I get my 'Busa, I'll never insure with Progressive! If you're wise, you'll stay away from them, too!

A yo Brother.  I feel you on that.  Progressive is the highest Insurance Company, I ever dealt with.  $22,000/year w/$1,000 Deductable, was the quote they gave me.  I never hear of anything like that before in my life.  I know i'm young at 23 yrs. old.  But holy ish!  Let's not jump to the moon.  That's outter space!  I ended up goin with state farm, for more than sufficient enough coverage at a feesable price at $173/month for 6 months and $68/month for 6 months w/$500 Deductable.  Now that's something that I can "ride" with.

State farm all the way. $575ish year FULL coverage. I made numerous phone calls and nobody came close. I am 40 married, clean license for many years, and the numbers were so rediculous it wasn't even funny.

Old post but the fact is, Progressive's policies and practices hasn't changed a bit. That's the WORST insurance company on the planet. It's easy to see why the have the money to advertise so much like they do.

I hate those (*&&*%&^%'s

I'm paying about $1,200 a year for the Busa (full coverage, just in case) and a 95 Magna (liability only).

Your low quotes make me want to switch companies. However, I use Allstate for my cars and my home also. If I cancel this policy and want to come back for some reason, they will no longer accept my Hayabusa.

Maybe I'd better stay put and pay the $100/mo.

No need to switch your cars and home.

I have a separate carrier for the 'busa (State Farm - 450/yr - full coverage) and that's written through their fire/casualty company, which does not have rates as good as their preferred company.  I COULD get preferred rates on the Busa, but I'd have to place my house and cars with State Farm, which means I'd have to give up the longevity discounts I get with my current carrier.  Cheaper for me to leave the cars and house where they are, and place the Busa with State Farm.

Keep in mind that State Farm carries NO - repeat - NO medical coverage on their policies, which is one reason they are the cheapest.  I was told that I COULD add a maximum of $1000 bodily injury coverage (for a reasonable price), but $1000 don't buy you 10 stitches in the ER, so I carry my health insurance through my job.
