Preparing to install hardwire for radar detector.

I was just wondering if anyone knows where it's best to hook up a wire harness for a radar detector. Should it be hooked up directly to the battery? What is the most common way to install the hardwire cable? Thanks for your input.

FWIW I connected my power wire to the low beam headlight and I used one of the gauge cluster 8mm mounting bolts as the ground source. It powers on and shuts off with the key.

Pad, that sounds like a very good way to wire up the radar detector. What did you use for a mount? Did you make one or is their some place I can order one?

Always try and wire it up so that it comes on and off with the key like the poster said earlier.

what kind of radar detecters are you guys running on the busa's? I need to do this as well because I have a cdl, so any help I can get would be appriciated.

Mine (Valentine V1) is hardwired to the battery, but since it's mounted on my tank-bag for easy carry, it energizes when I plug the power-cord into the back of it.

Works just fine with no additional mounting hardware and it grab-and-go when I walk away.

Thanks Scar, I got a sti driver here somewhere, I may go try to get that out and install it since it's snowing. :banghead:

I'm using an Escort Passport 9500i. It will have to be removed if it rains, but I believe it's better than the Adaptive (waterproof) detector. If you want to use the controlls with gloves on, the Adaptive is easier, and of course, you won't have to worry about the rain. Good luck.

check out the new Escort Redline......supposedly invisible to radar detector detectors.....ziggy from BC, Canada

I use a Belltronics Express 795 that I got from Radio Shack on closeout for $50. The 795 has the same antenna as the 995 series, just doesn't have all the features. I had to modify (solder) the unit to add an output jack instead of the on board piezoelectric speaker. For $50 it has saved my butt more times than I can count. Having the output in my helmet speakers is much better and quicker for me to identify than visual alerts.
