Pepper spray or mace?

Anyone have any good sites for the purchase of Pepper spray or mace... I did a search but there are so many... My wife walks a track in the morning and I mean early morning.  So she has requested some type of mace/pepper spray.  To be truthful I don't put much stock into them but she knows to spray and run if anything were to ever go down.

So if anyone knows any good small hand held types of either of the above and whether the gel is better than the spray?

Wichever one you decide to go with make sure it has UV dye in it so if she sprays someone and the fugger gets away he'll glow if the po po shines a black light on him so he won;t be able to deny involvement.

I use a little mace on mine, seems to slow her down a bit so I can catch her......

Diesel... No one is out to get her... She just doesn't like walking in the dark with out some type of protection. If I gave her my pistol she would probably clear the neighborhood of other walkers accidentally.

with the right weapon and proper training, she can actually be as safe as possible...a deranged psychopath isn't going to be deterred by a little spray...i don't want to unnecessarily scare anyone but i think arming for the attack is just as important as dressing for the crash (to borrow a saying i hear around here a lot)

Pepper spray outdoors is not such a good idea. The slightest puff of breeze and you could end up spraying yourself more than your attacker. If you've never been sprayed, you don't know that it WILL put you down and it doesn't take much, either.

Never heard of the foam. If it's more directional, it might be better. Worth it to read up on it.

A mace sprayer may atomize at a larger droplet size so it could be better for outdoor use.

I'm in favor of using guns if possible. Training should be used.

Bad guys use knives and guns too and if they do, you could be at the short end of a surprise attack and no weapon will help you in that scenario.

A focus on self-defense classes would be appropriate in any case, no matter what. Heck, if it gives her enough of a workout, maybe she won't have to run outside any more at all!

I can say I’ve had my fair share of most of it. Mace does not hold a candle to OC (olersin capsicum or whatever it is called) pepper spray. I’m not a fan of the mist as it will blow around, but the stream style is something else. The foam also works very well, hits and foams to a consistency of shaving cream. I was sprayed with the stream for my first experience with OC. The second time was with foam a few months later. Though the same manufactures and % the foam was not as effective on me as the stream. After 2 months of debate, they convinced me that that because the stream was my first experience with OC, I took it worse. I got to try the stream again. No doubt in my mind that the stream is more effective. Wicked, bad stuff will turn 99% of the big bad fighters into crying babies. But… I’ve also seem it not work one bit… the guy tried to catch it in his mouth. Absolutely do not use it to defend yourself against a weapon.

I got em both too professor, there are pros and cons... Pro to the stream is it gets in the skin and eyes better but can be wiped off. The foam comes out in a cone and covers the head and chest, if you try to wipe it off you just push it deeper into your pores.... The stream is more subject to wind and the foam doesnt have the distance...

OC is bad mambo jambo when I was on the street it never failed me....

Check local laws, but you may want to get mace for the long shots but also a stun gun for close encounters.

A gun is not for everyone and are better off in the hands of people who are comfortable having them around. Me....I love guns

OC does work on most, but can be "fought through". In other words, it's not 100%. It did wonders on me but I did manage weapon retention for about 3 minutes before the instructor said "time". Once I forgot about fighting for my gun, I realized I was in a lot of pain.

The cone dispersal (mist) is okay for no wind. The ballistic stream is better for wind but needs accuracy and thus some practice.
I have no training with the foam but it looks pretty intense. You can buy inert delivery systems for practice.

It is NOT enough to own or carry OC...you must train with/for it. Not doing so can lead to "freezing up" when the moment hits.
