now i have had the opportunity to educate myself to the state laws about open carry and done a meet with folks to open carry and educate folks, im getting more comfortable with Open carry. so tonight i holstered my 1911 on my hip and rode to bike night. wife complained a little saying it would pinch her leg once in a while if i heavy braked. otherwise went in to Buffalo Wild wings... bought sodas...staff was freindly..nobody said a word. chaos did not ensue..men didn't curse and shake their fists...women didn't run screaming for their lives...and children didn't hide out of fear. nice quiet evening. thank god for the 2nd amendment to allow me to have the TOOLS to protect my family and others and thank the state for having laws protecting this RIGHT.

Awesome. I carry open all the time. Was weird at first but now I think nothing of it. Never gotten any looks or disapproval. Now I feel naked if I ever leave home without it. When on the bike put it just off center of your back. My wife complained all the time it hurt her leg. If there's any problems she can always draw and shoot. Just don't piss her off. lol

Sorry, while an avid supporter of the 2nd Amendment, I don't think open carry is such a good idea, but I'm glad we have the freedom to do so. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.

Open carry just let's the crooks know who to shoot first or who to disarm first. And since you will be reacting to their actions and most likely never get the drop on them you may be the first target and example made. Take the most recent example of granpa shooting the bad guys in casino. Had he been open carrying they may have seen it and immediately disarmed him or shot him. Concealed still affords you many advantages. I'm glad you didn't have any problems with others and nobody freaked out.

And ps....you forgot to capitalize God :)

the reason i do it is so Americans become more aware of their rights. we had an officer stop and harass and individual here couple weeks ago and we did an open carry march to educate the citizens and the local LEO to the LAWS allowing us to do so. he stopped ...demanded id...removed weapon... threatened to have the individuals LTCF license revoked, ie brought down all his implied authority on the person that was open carrying.all are actually criminal offenses that the LEO committed (misdemeanor 2nd degree) and the LEO was remanded and given additional training. you would actually be surprised how many come up and ask questions and gives you the opportunity to give them a pamphlet on the carry laws (concealed and open) and they are genuinely surprised they have those rights because they have been "educated" otherwise by media and anti nuts. but also if there is someone going to commit a crime and they come prepared to assault with deadly force and dont care who is there and with what...... thats an invasion ...not a crime... reality is and statistics show... criminals see a weapon...they stop and retreat till that threat is gone...they want in and out no issues and want to feel they can accomplish it without injury to themselves... anit gun nuts brainwash you into believing that you "need" to keep it concealed to have an advantage so regular people can go on with their daily lives oblivious to the rights. when truth is (take that texas town that requires EVERYONE to open carry and has 0% crime rate!!) an openly armed citizen is as effective in stopping crime before it happens as an officer standing there. but i conceal carry also.

This is my weapon this is my gun this is for fighting and this is for fun... Both should be kept private in public.
I carry concealed and once in awhile i will find somebody with there pistol on there side like look at me i have a gun....
Not only will you become the main target if involed in a felony crime but also risk someone coming up behind you to snatch it away and also rob you with your own gun.. wouldnt that be a b.i.t.c.h!!!

Yes its your right as it is for a fat obese person to wear a bikini on the beach... doesnt mean they should and most dont want to see it but its both your rights..

I agree with the other guys Chris. You should conceal carry also:thumbsup:

So what these guys are saying is that you shouldn't be a cop either because they open carry and criminals will make them the example and shoot them first. Maybe they will only disarm them. What I know for sure is that cops are definitely at a disadvantage because they also wear a uniform advertising to everybody that they are armed. Really guys? How many people die everyday BECAUSE they are openly carrying a gun? Now how many people die in motorcycle accidents everyday? Maybe you should think before you write knee jerk responses...just my opinion, feel free to disagree, but you won't change it one bit.

the reason i do it is so Americans become more aware of their rights.

2nd amendment rights is not the reason, it's the excuse!

Any American who doesn't know his rights should not own a gun much less carry one!

I am proud of the fact as an American we all have the right to arm ourselves without having a reason to do so. However, when I see John Q citizen packin a weapon on the hip in public places makes me think "Dipstick". :dunno:

not a good idea imo.

responded to a call several years ago where a man was shot DEAD at a local gas station when the robber walked in to rob the joint thinking the guy he shot was carrying a weapon on his side when actually it was one of them scanners in his holster.... the guy wearing the scanner had a blue uniform shirt on and jeans but worked for some delivery service. this azzhole fled the scene and was caught a short time later after getting back into his car and blowing a red right to get away and crashed into another car and was badly injured.

he was high on crack and when asked why he shot an innocent man who was there to buy milk of all things he stated that he shot him cause he had a gun on his side and thought maybe he was a cop.???

I guess in some ways it could work for you cause criminals may think ur Police and not decide to commit the crime they were going commit in the first place. but when im off duty I dont want anyone thinking or knowing im a cop unless im in uniform or displaying a badge with handcuffs but I have never carried openly even on my badge where its completely legal for me to do.

carrying open like that will end up causing you more grief then comfort as time goes by ill bet when u could accomplish the same thing by concealing it. if you cant get ur gun out from a concealed location then you should not be carrying a gun. not to mention your gun is far easier to take away from you in an open carry situation unless ur holster has a level II or III retention device and most who carry openly do not have a level II or III retention device. maybe you do. I hope so for ur sake.

the BlackHawk Serpa CQC is a great holster for you. not all business are going to allow you to carry in their establishment. that is their right since its private property.

the bottom line is it makes you more of a target and will likely hurt you more then help you. the advantage of surprise far outweighs that of carrying openly.

the number of people who would actually be willing to carry guns openly on a daily basis is miniscule and certainly not enough to change the social dynamics of carrying weapons in modern the day western society we live in. if open carry was legal everywhere and accepted by most everyone that would be different. its not and never will be in our society with all the gun violence we see every day.

real gunfighters don’t use pistols, except as an absolute last resort. rifles and machine gun are the tools of the trade for soldiers, terrorists, guerillas and SWAT or ESU units in Police departments around the world.

The pistol’s primary advantage is that its small and easily concealable. carrying openly gives up the pistol’s greatest single advantage over a rifle or machine gun which is being stealth. again, like stated above. just because you can doesnt mean you should. but its ur right to do carry it like that and if you feel thats what makes you and wife safe then that's ur decision.

all valid points ... i wont be OC all the time... and there is always alot of debate on the issues.. pro's, con's what if's ect ect... reality is... you never know. that same person buying milk could have been shot because he was there..guy in casino might have been targeted...or criminal might have seen it and fled (like historically they do as a majority). i belong to a forum and its discussed by all. putting in their fears and reservations and those who do it all the time and never have issues. i was taught you have to stand for something or you already fell. we as a society have been going the wrong direction for a long long time. more police...cant afford it... take away the guns....then we only defenseless and crime increases... keep our secrets of wanting to protect ourselves in the dark (conceal) then we are hiding and not facing these issues head on. you tell me the difference between a dictator (a criminal...does horrible things to everyone) and a everyday criminal out for their own selfish gains because they dont have the ability to work and make their own way due to their own psychological shortcomings or environmental factors? i say there is none...but you know how you stop them... OPENLY ARMED RESISTANCE TO THEIR AGENDAS. as a wise man said... a openly armed society is a polite society. naturally expressing your concerns are appreciated...im not offended in any way as this debate i am sure will not stop as we all wrestle with our inner "american" as to how we decide how we can help "direct" this country to being the truly free nation we were written to be!!

I agree its your decision and if that's what you personally feel makes you safer then thats what you should do. its one of the beauties of living in America. we have rights that we can chose to exercise or not exercise even if they are not popular with everyone else.

just be careful going into the cites like Phili or Pittsburgh cause the Police there will likely be more aggresive towards someone they see carrying a gun openly since gun violence there is more prevalent.

i dont travel to those citys but philly is the only first class city in the state and has special rules. you can CC but you have to have a LTCF to OC in the city...

our city of wichita, ks just approved open carry. not that the city had much choice since it is state law. wichita can however approve laws about how you open carry...ie secured holster and gun safety on... I dont open carry, but i just thought it was interesting givin the people who dislike fire arms.

correct me blanca... its "an armed society is a polite society" by Robert A. Heinlein

and here is a intresting video that makes me think..
