Moto GP Qualifying

Hopefully someone can answer this. I've been watching Moto GP qualifying on my PC for years but only the live positions as they change, not live video. Does anyone know what the little(different colors) helmets that appear on the left side of the screen next to various riders means?

I am not sure - they used to signify fastest laps, best in session, records, etc... But after the timing... here is a pic in honor of a Duc on the front row!
