What I don't get is when people became afraid to stand up for their beliefs?

I don't agree with everyone all the time but I respect everyone and I hope they respect me. What I won't tolerate is someone trampling on my beliefs. As an aside, I hold people in slightly less esteem if they won't stand up for their own beliefs. They, unfortunately, think it a sign of respect if they let me trample their beliefs.

Fortunately, I'm not the kind of guy who will take unfair advantage of someone because they are wishy-washy about their beliefs. I'm not saying people should be militant about their beliefs because that doesn't engender respect either. Just a quiet assurance and composure about it along with an inherent open-mindedness and we're good to go. Many people on this board are like this and it's a relief!

There are those, however, who will steamroller those of you who are not setting your personal boundaries about your beliefs. That's why our past 45 years has seen things like Madeline Murray O'Hare trampling you and idiots trying to get the ten commandments out of the courtrooms and "In God We Trust" off of our money.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not necessarily opposed to having religion out of the government but I'm not blind to two things: 1. Our government was formed by men who, for the most part, believed in god although they didn't choose to foist their beliefs on everyone via governmental power and 2. The majority of people today in this country are believers in a god of some kind although all too often, they don't act like it.

Frankly, it's getting disgusting out there. The PC crowd is nauseating.

Isnt this just typical of how things evolve into other things that are irrevocably damaging to a society..

Slight erosion here and there of what the "norm" is considered.. As that slight deviation is accepted, further cuts into the moral fiber are then indulged.. Simple case in point is our movie ratings system as well as what is accpetable on TV, listen to the dialog.. If I was raising a young child today? there would be no "unsupervised" tv in the home.. You could not put a typical "tv show" on the air that we have today 20 years ago..

You will allow the small incurrsions into what any normal parent would consider inappropriate and call it something like politically correct... it is sad and sickening.. I am guessing it was your upbringing.. Or could be you lack any moral fortitude and allow yourself to be brainwashed into what ever the "cause of the day" is...

Used to be a time when I cared about people getting killed on the streets.. Having lived in the big city for as many years as I did, I decided that the murders were ok in a strange way.. Sort of like a self cleaning oven..

The bad guys are killing other bad guys.. An occassional good guy gets caught in the crossfire every now and then and that is sad but for the most part? scum bags are killing other scumbags over drugs, turf or gang violence... knock yourselves out.. I no longer have the energy to care if some gang kid kills another gang kid (as long as it is not in my neighborhood) Let the ghetto rats wipe theselves out.. I blame it on their parents myself (or lack thereof)

Actually I believe freedom and equality, you know Biscuit those simple principals that America was founded upon. Thank God for that eroding of norms because it brought ,the end of Slavery, woman's sufferage, and civil rights among other things.

I do not believe in denying personal freedom to anyone. I don't agree with every practice but as long as it s not hurting me or anyone else then I am ok with it. I school my kids, I put what they see and into context and explain right and wrong. I don't see any problem with teaching tolerance and respect for other individuals rights. I certainly do not think my beliefs should be forced upon anyone else. I also do not think it is right to use my beliefs to justify denying individuals their rights.

At the end of the day why do you care how other people live their lives as long as they are doing so in a way that respects your rights?

I guess going after homosexuals is easy so that is why they are a target. It is easy to say well I am a Christian and God said it was wrong so by golly they should be stopped. I say you are a coward to use that excuse to go after homosexuals if you are not also going after everyone else who believes differenly than you.

First as one post pointed out the article was written over a year ago. Has there been any controversy assoiciated with the passing of the law? Stop with the "Chicken Little" view of the world, actually read and investigate a little and you may find that sky is not falling.

Biscuit, I will not stoop to a personal attack as you have choosen to do. I have fought for the freedom I speak of and even you have the right to say what you like. However, if you do not like living in a free society where individuals have the right to live as they please there are plenty of places you can go.

Even some cartoons today are not apropriate for kids. We dont let our kids watch simpsons let alone family guy. Teen shows like the new beverly hill 90210 is unapropriate for teens. They glorify and sell sex to kids like its okay and the "cool" thing to do as well as drinking. You cant show kids having fun drinking at parties and screwing in their bedrooms then making look like its not only the right thing but no consequences for it.

Take PG 13 today. I've seen brief nudity in pg 13

Lot of paranoiac crap flying around here. Bottom line is no matter how much a State, any Parent or Teacher try and make a mess of everything, kids/young people will eventually learn of their options (if not sooner then later and especially outside of the school environment) and will always decide for themselves which Hotel/Motel their going to stay at, such as you and I have. I do feel really bad for the kid that has to be put thought the grinder of ignorance from all sides.
