I see a lot of topics on the ECU being flashed and having it mailed around to tuners, however is it difficult to do yourself? I mainly just want to get rid of the limiter and increase throttle speed in lower gears. It looked simple enough - hook it up download and run the software and youre done. Just hoping to hear from some members that might of done it themselves to see if there is anything I should be leery of.

Thanks

no matter if gen1 or 2
you need the special software from "PetriK" (for free)

plus

the special interface for gen1 OR! gen2 from @smithabusa - each around 230 bucks

but if you have no clue about the software you are in biggest danger to "destroy" the mapping and by that the function of the ecu/ecm.

for your safety ask for someone who will do the flash for you with your specifications - may cost around 100-150 bucks, but better this is!

why not have a member video a full demonstration who is able to illustrate the correct procedure, I'm sure there is someone capable to do that that would be easy enough for a skilled technician

The first time can be a little intimidating. Getting the jumper wires in the harness isn't as easy as it is made out to be, but I have a method that makes it easy. It can be a hassle getting the ECU Editor software to behave on your computer, particularly the driver to make it actually flash. If you understand the changes you are making (ECU Editor explains most) you can remove the limiter and make the timing map and secondary throttle plate maps more aggressive in gears 2-3, like in gear 4. I'm self-taught, not an expert, and haven't burnt anything up yet.
