I'm an idiot

So, I'm heading home on Silverado Trail and it is after midnight. No one on the rode..just me and my sweetheart purring along at 70 mph and 4.5 grand. Nice set of twisties coming up. Road signage state 35mph on this curve. Downshift 2 3rd gear and begin my countersteer. I do not know what made me do this...but right before reaching the apex of the curve I looked at my speedo to check speed...why...I'm an idiot. Next thing I know I am way the heck off line at 60mph. I feel the adrenaline hit me hard. Somehow in this scenario I see my wife pissing on my grave because she told me if you buy that bike and get killed...I will kill you a second time...(you know how ladies can be about boy's toys)...funny the things that pop into your head as you are about to die or become dismembered. I was recommended the book, "Twisted Throttle", so I read it. Somehow the tutoring in that book saved my sorry arse. I was truly in a desperated situation. I knew that if I hit the brakes it would stand the bike up and off the road into the trees I would be flying...arse over tea kettle so to speak. I remember that I had to accelerate to unweight the front tire and kick it even harder on countersteer to change the radius of the turn....this all took less than half a second to realize and execute....my god...it worked...somehow I became Charles Busa at Buttonwillow....almost had a code brown in the panties....ha ha ha...but I learned about taking the eyes off of the road for even a microsecond. I ride alot of twisties on my daily commute and this bike just loves to lay over and acclerate...I don't know what ORG. member had this under their name...but I think I will have it written onto my bike when I paint her..."Our Blessed Lady of Accleration"... My love for this bike grows every ride...she is far more capable than I am....just wanted to share my experience with near death and solicit any constructive remarks that you'd like to share with me. I love this forum...2hip

Thank you for the reminder. Sometimes we take this sport for granted and forget it can kill you if you don't pay attention all the time.

Good save.
Just last weekend , for some reason I looked down at my speedo while passing a truck on the interstate on the way to Indy, and when I looked back up, my left knee was about a foot from the concrete center median divider thing at 85 mph. I was immediatly re-focused.

Been there,.........done that. In the midst of me thinking that I was about to crash,...........I remembered what a friend told me,.........."Trust your tires,.......and LEAN" If you crash,......chances are,.......you were going to crash anyway. Make the effort to save it,...........and more than likely,........you will. Great job under pressure!!! :beerchug:

Sweet save my man, it's just amazing how fast our mind will process or recall important info. You said it was a half second, I'll bet more like .05. Great job:thumbsup:

Its also amazing when things like this happen. IT all seems to go in slow motion. Like your brain is slowing everything down for you. Or you are just thinking faster then normal so it just seems slower.

very cool  when in doubt, just ride it out. if you get bored this winter pick up a book called "sport riding techniques" by nick ienatsch. best money can buy and you'll learn alot.

Charlesbusa told me that years ago. It's saved my sorry butt on a couple of occasions. Saved a lot of other people too when I've passed it along.

Nice that you saved it too!
