Alright guys , i need some help. I just added on to my home , one of the rooms added is a home theater. I'm ready to buy components , Ive been to a couple of big chains ... and honestly the guys didnt impress me with knowledge. My questions are these ...
1.What are good projector brands?
2.What the hell is lumen's?
3.What is the gain of a screen and what are some good brand screens?
I am looking for 150"s of viewing pleasure , if any of you guys could point me in the right direction , i surely would appreciate it. Feel free to add anything that i haven't addressed that might be important for i am not very knowledgeable in this field.
1. I have a Mitsubishi HC1500 it rocks! Some other good brands are Panasonic and Optima. But at 150" I would defiantly get a 1080P screen. The Sanyo Z2000 comes to mind and its reasonably priced.
2. Lumens is basically a rating that shows how bright the projector is. My HC1500 is rated at 1600 Lumens and I would say its very bright.
3. Gain is the reflectivity of the screen. The higher the gain the more bright the image will appear. However the higher the gain the narrower the viewing angle you will have. Lower gains will produce better contrast and a wider viewing angle. If you can have very good to total control of your lighting then I would go with a lower gain screen.
Here is a list of popular projectors.

And here is a throw distance calculator that will tell you how far back the specific projector will need to be in order to achieve the image size you desire.

I bought my screen from this guy off ebay. It seems to be pretty good quality for the price. He will do custom sizes as well so just because he dosnt have your size he should be able to make you one. Just send him a message.

You can also do a DIY screen. That will cost you far less. But can be time consuming. But you could potential have some very nice results. But I just didn't have the patience for it, so I just bought one.
