HAS ANYONE INSTALLED A 200 REAR TIRE YET?

Has anyone got some actual experience with a 200 rear tire on a Busa?

I reviewed all tire posts for 100 days back and couldn't find anyone who's installed one.

If you have installed and ridden on one, please post your results or tell me where you have already posted your results.

I'm due for my third rear now, and although I'm 100% satisfied with my current ME Z3, I want to try the extra traction of a 200 width race compound on the track AND see how it behaves on the street.

If you have put a 200 on, how's the fit? Is chassis clearance OK? How does the wider radius affect handling? Have you been to the track or just used it on the street? If you've been on the street with it, how's traction, given that you can never get the tire into its intended operating heat range on the street (unless, of course, you're running from FalconCOP161)? Which brand did you buy? How's it for wear?

Feed me, feed me...

I wouldn't think clearance using a 200 should be a problem with the stock 190 Bridgestone J measuring an actual 198 mm. I nearly bought a Mich 25 x in a 200 until VegasDude provided a source for the stock replacement J tire ($147) which ended up costing LESS than the Mich would have.(nearly $200) The new Mich Pilots if and when released are supposed to be even higher which isn't surprising considering the arm & a leg they get on their Pilots for cars. There doesn't appear to be a huge abundance of 200 street tires on the market and I would recommend insuring that whatever tire is used on the Busa it is capable of holding up under the Beast.

I am currently putting on a tx25 200 mich. tire. i won't have any results for you until next month. I run them on my '96 gsxr 1100 turbo/nos bike and love how it hooks on the track and street.

Todd, I don't believe there are ANY 200 tires available in street compound.

Every one I've found is pure race.

Turbo1300: So you DO use a 200 on the street in your 1100! In case nobody shows with Busa/200 experience, can you tell me a little about your experience?

Appreciate it.

The tx25 street Mich is listed in a 200. D Kirk (there's that name again!) and others list them for a bit under $200.

I would be careful guys. If you look at your current setup it appears to me there is barely 2 millimeters of space between the chain and tire as it is. The 200 may cause you problems :(

Pete, for your info and anyone else,
I installed a set of pirelli dragon corsa's
200/50zr17 and 120/70zr17.after the 100
mile break-in i started putting them to test.
handling is very quick,excellent grip,
and i guess most people's concerns are
clearance. there is plenty of room.i felt
i made a very good choice. very pleased
with these tires. hope that helps. Dave!!

I have a set of Pirelli Dragon Corsas mounted on new wheels for over a month, just waiting on some rear rotor bolts. 200/50/17 120/70/17. The stock rear tire as mentioned above is actually a 198.

David what kind of mileage are you seeing and are you wearing the rear tire right out to the edge? How does it corner compared to the BT56J's?

Thanks fellers: I'm just looking for someone who has actual experience with a 200 on the back.

If no one has that, I'll try it.

I'm not concerned about this business of "the carcass has to be able to handle the...." stuff.

I'll try to grab one of those street Michelins. I have good confidence in my ME Z3 front, so I'll just leave that where it is.

Unless someone posts in who can steer me straighter, I'm staying off the subject of tires.

kawabuser, as for mileage i assume you mean
tread life. i have about three hundred
miles on them, not a good indicator. yet!
As for taking them to the edge i am a little
short from taking it all the way.
Now for comparison to the bt56j's.
I feel they respond a lot quicker when turning, acceleration seems better, meaning
there is less wheel spin under hard accel.
I feel very confident riding the bike with
the dragon corsa's.They also seem to heat up
a lot quicker. Hope that helps, Dave

if your going to use the pirelli dragons. the corsa name means it has the race compound. if you want to just go straight use the mtr-02. if you want a twistie tire, mtr-08. they both have the same compound. the 08 has a more rounded face.

Cisco, my post said "production bike", meaning "from the factory". It did not say first of any bike seen on the street or first bike out of some custom bike shop.

With the encouragement of Dave's experience so far with his 200 tire, and despite being a little concerned about VegasDude's warning about chain clearance, I'm tossing on a Michelin tx25 200 on Thursday or Friday, and very much looking forward to it.

If the tire messes me up, I'm 100% happy to fall back on another ME Z3 190.

BONUS!!!!!! The Michelin tire is cheap!!!!

HAS ANYONE INSTALLED A 200 REAR TIRE YET?

Yes, Kawasaki has on the ZX-12. The first production bike with a 200 rear tire.

This is true info... I could'nt resist getting a quick rise out of the more "sensitive" members of this board :)

Hate to tell you this Zleeper but the custom Harley riders in California has been putting very wide tirers on their bikes with custom frames since about a year and a half ago.Seen a couple on softtails HD at the Holister MC event this pass July,we're talking low profile car tires,I'm not sure about handling but sure looks neat.

The Michelin tx25 200 tire is on, as of one hour and 40 miles ago, combined with an ME Z3 front.

I gave it no respect for being a new tire and it worked very well for me.

The profile is flatter than the ME Z3 and more similar to the OE tire, so it doesn't dip into corners as easily as the ME Z3.

But it has much greater straight ahead traction that either the ME Z3 or the OE tire. Bigger contact patch for sure.

A drag slick you can turn on!!!!!!

And it's clear that the Michelin will be better in the rain, as the grooves go right to the edge and squeeze water out the side. The grooves on the Metzeler end before the edge and do not dump water at all when you're in a corner (just when you need a contact patch!)

As Vegasdude warned the chain clearance is scant at 1/4" to 3/8." Seems a little close to me, but as long as I keep alignment good it should be OK.

And, as Turbo13000 says about his tx 25 200 on his turbo & nitrous GSXR110, he loves how it hooks up.

I'm looking forward to pushing this tire a little in the twisties, and I'm going to do that starting tomorrow.

My wife today asked what plans I have for the weekend. I answered I plan to ride. She smiled. Things could be worse.

I ran the tx25 200 series Michelin Hi Sport hard today for 300 miles on hot twisty pavement at 37 psi.

The bike is very composed, with some slight rocking in the rear in high speed corners.
I never felt threatened by this minor flaw. It's just because the tire's wider with a shallower radius than either the OE Slipstone or the ME Z3. Maybe I can correct it with a couple more pounds of pressure.

This mild rear rocking is more than compensated for by a sharp increase in acceleration traction at all speeds, and better rider feedback in turns.

It takes power well coming out of a corner. Whereas I could not shake the ME Z3 loose at high speed and was concerned about that tire suddenly breaking loose, this tx25 200 slides a little without sacrificing too much traction. Gives you nice progressive feedback.

If you like dirt riding, you'll like this tire.

I'm going to keep this tire and replace it with the same tire again. It's my benchmark so far.
