last sat i installed the unit and it worked great--
until tonite. i was getting ready to go to a meeting
and a "A" came on followed by a "C". the "C" stays
on all the time. doesn't matter what switch position
the ignition is in. i'm thinking the "C" means calibrate
but i didn't see anything in the instructions. i disconnected the battery for tonite. is this a defective
unit or just a matter of reconnecting the plugs, battery
cables? man i hate this- this thing worked great all
weekend.

I don't believe it's messed up, I think you simply goofed in the programming.  I don't have the manual in front of me.  My suggestion would be to start over and follow it to the letter.  W/out a manual in front me I can't help you much, but I do recall the A,B, C and -, 5, 6 program modes.

BTW, I don't think the C stands for anything more than just that - "C"

i just looked at my instructions for Gipro and it doesnt say anything about a C on the display. It talks about L for learn mode, A for auto something and U for update after learning. You should probably try putting it in learn mode and program it and see if that fixes it. If it keeps doing what it is now then return it and get another one...

that's the same thing i read. thing is: i can't get to
the L mode or anything else. pushing the little
button does nothing. when i disconnected the
battery then reconnected it it just goes from "A"
to "C" and stays that way even with the ignition switch
off. when we hooked it up the gear indicator worked
fine and i set the map to 5. if there's a defective
product-i'll get it. i work in the "quality" dept.

The only time "A" should come on is when you are adjusting the sensitivity of the auto brightness controller.

There is no "C" in the book.  Are you sure it is a "C"?

I see you posted while I was researching. You may want to do 5.3 in the book again and follow it closely.

let us know what happens.

yes- i just rode 50 miles at night with a big bright
blue "C" staring me in the face. i stopped to gas up
and a lady asked me if that big blue light was my
theft protection system. didn't fell like talking-bummed out.

Unless someone else has some good inside info on these things...I am not sure if anyone will be able to help since the book has no "C" and we are all just speculating on what to do .

It may be a bad unit.

Don't feel bad. Mine has recently started showing 4 or 5 even when I'm in 1st gear. When I'm in 1st I can rev the engine and the display will show 4 or 5. I like it, but it's buggin' the heck out of me

This happened to my unit as well. I tried everything you did, disconnected the battery and everything else but nothing worked. Somehow, mine ended up going away and working again.

I left the bike alone with everything connected including the battery for 2-3 hours and it went away. I don't have any solutions except to wait and see what happens. It has been working perfectly since then, which was 4 months ago. Good luck.

Thank God mines has been working fine. It's been on bike for over 6 months.
But to help, contact GIpro tech support at www.gi-pro.net.

Before I bought mines, I contact them for specific question and they anwsered me back in less than 24 hrs.
I was always taught ask the horse. It's their product.

mines been working like a champ since Dec 06. I'm sure they'll fix it. keep us posted

ok-here's where i'm at now. got home from work. 1st thing go
to garage and start trying everything. disconnected battery, connected
battery, disconnect connectors, connect connectors, check wire to
battery, switch on,switch off, make sure everything is good and tight.
(by this time wife is getting pissed-we planned on going to a church
service tonite and i didn't sit down for pork chop dinner she just cooked)
all i get is the big "A" then "C" in the display. arrrrrgh now i'm getting
pissed. having a pity party. why me why me why me. finally i took the
unit out and packaged it up. sent e-mail to healtech electronics as noted
in users guide. says 30 day money back guarantee or 2-year replacement
guarantee. so now i'm waiting for a rma# or return address or whatever.
i definitely want another one-i love this thing. kinda like some x-girlfriends and x-wifes. dysfunctional relationships-i could write a book.
i love you-you hurt me. arrrrrgh. i keep poking a stick in my eye. anyway-
thx for all the replies. i know i'm not alone now and there is hope. btw-
missed church, no dinner, and this site was down for awhile. what's an
ATRE anyway? 300 ways to leave your lover. i'm through

Hello,

Thnank you for your email - I'm sorry to hear about the problem.

It sounds like the button got wet and the unit thinks it is depressed
constantly.
Please let it dry and it should work fine again.

The whole PCB is water resistant but the button may not work
temporarily
when water gets inside.

After 1-2 dry days, it might be a good idea to put a square of quality
black
electrical tape over the button to help keep water out in the future.

If the above does not apply, maybe the button got stucked. In this case
please try to loosen it up by using a small flat head screwdriver.

I hope this helps, and please let me know how it goes.

Kind Regards,
/Norbert

uhmmm...shortcut?....no offense meant buuuuuuut...he did open up by saying....

"Thnank you for your email - I'm sorry to hear about the problem.

It sounds like the button got wet....."

which might indicate to me that you failed to mention 'up front' that...

"IT WASN'T IN WATER
AND I DIDN'T TOCH THE BUTTON SINCE INSTALL. ARRRRGH"

which in turn left the CS Rep pretty much "guessing" at some possible initial causes of failure...and to reassure himself (based on the information given) that his company didn't have to pay round trip overnight express shipping fees (un-necessarily) for what could've simply and easily been just a wet button that needed time to dry...which i'm certain they probably have a lot of from the guys that blast their bikes with a garden hose without putting a sandwich baggy over the electronics.

However...judging by your response he's well aware that "that" ain't the problem by now!

...but at least it appears he's working with you on addressing the issue.

Communication is key....and beware...as often times?...the world can become a mirror...and most times it seems?..it's a more bees w/ honey sorta thing...both ways.

My GiPro did the exact same thing to me after I washed my bike. I washed my bike and had not turned on the Tre function on the device since I installed it. So I scrolled through the options and set up the TRE. As soon as the Tre was setup a "C" and a "A" showed up on the display. I let the bike run for appx 2-3 mins then turned it off. When I turned the bike back on the display was reading normal.

My .02 cents

i wash my bike all the time and have no problems with my Gipro...

well i didn't know of other folks having similar problems until
i posted this topic. my unit is boxed up ready to return for replacement
as soon as i get authorization from someone. i believe mine is
a defective unit as stated because it never seen water and the
button aint stuck. $161.99 delivered- i don't feel like i need to
"troubleshoot" the problem. am i expecting too much to have a
new product with no problems? it's only been on my bike a week.
btw- took the busa out today and noticed without the TRE it IS
more abrupt in the 1st 4 gears. didn't notice much difference
last week when i installed the GiPro but now without the TRE i can
definitely feel a difference. this isn't a lot of money- but just very
annoying that the thing malfunctioned. i get hung-up on this type
of stuff. it has consumed my mind since the thing quit working thurs
nite. i even have dreams about the big blue "C" in my display. maybe
i should hook it back up and just have the big blue "C" on the display
all the time. i could make up some story to tell people what the big
blue "C" means. Clueless?Conundrum? at least the TRE was working and i could smooth out the 1st 4 gears again.
