Seems like good news for gen 3 owners...too bad Suzuki didn't cough up the fee to fix their mistake though.
I'm sure if you asked Suzuki they would have some reason why it is the way it is. Just like they restrict top speed, and worse don't open the throttle bodies to 100% when your throttle hand goes WFO.
Thankfully there are people like Chris to correct their short sightedness

The odd thing is this system is used on the GSXR to great effect with similar restrictions.

Glad to hear it’s not just me!

I suppose another way to test would be to turn off the QS and just go old school clutchless shift and see if the same lag happens. Hmmmm… will leave QS on for now and look for black marks first.
IVE HAD THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENING. I asked Chris Moore about it but it got lost in other subject discussion. There is DEFINITELY lag in the 1-2 at higher rpm. No doubt.

This is my first bike with a quick-shifter and I'm slowly getting used to it. So far I like using it under full throttle but downshifting is a little odd. I keep grabbing for the clutch and prefer to use the clutch when downshifting multiple gears. Got to retrain my brain. I was reading the service manual and was surprised to learn the difference in the modes was effort and travel required to shift gears. Most of the literature just says sport and city or touring mode. I keep it in city riding mode 2 all of the time and am surprised it does not default to that mode. I guess the sport mode is to ensure there are no accidental shifts on the track because it takes a stronger motion to change gears. I'm kind of curious how they control effort and throw of the shifter though. Maybe an electronic adjustment in the shift sensor itself that delays the ignition/throttle cut. I think doing so would be harder on the transmission though.

Just a few thoughts
I wonder if the Engine Brake setting has anything to do with the QS

One thing I noticed with the QS is that if you are under throttle - say, to pass a car - and you try to shift down to grab a lower gear, it won't give you the gear. I had to clutch to grab 3rd from 6th. While under steady power this doesn't happen
Anyone else experience the same thing?

I really wonder how much of the lack of engine breaking is really the clutch allowing to slip on de-acceleration. I guess we'll have to wait for Brocks to release the one piece clutch early 2023. I still hate the damn 1st gear low speed slop when on and off throttle. Bushings helped but it's still there ... Drives me bat poop crazy.

I have noticed that at low revs the QS is not as smooth so I use my clutch, and half the time I will use my clutch at higher revs and I always use my clutch on downshifts, just seems friendlyer.
That’s what I mean… well done… your bike deserves it

You don't need to clutch on downshifts with the QS, even on the throttle.
You're missing out on what it is designed to do.
The gsxr's QS shifts smooth from above 2500 rpms, up or down, on the throttle.

My gen 3 is not unsmooth at low rpm’s but you can feel the difference below 2500. Above 3000 it’s like butter and above 6000 it’s like double butter.
