Forks Question?

I've always wondered if when the forks are off of a motorcycle. Is it possible to hold the tubes and spin the body of the fork continuously without affecting the settings or damaging the fork? Just always wondered and have never personally disassembled the forks myself. Let me know.

When I put my forks back together there was no specific way to slide the tube back in, so I would guess that they can be turned without affecting anything.
About spinning them continuously, I'm not sure why that would be done, and I would not do it myself.

Yeah, I'm not planning on twisting them, I was just curious.
