F-15 lands w/ 1 wing

Old footage. Still nice to see what good pilots can do with a good product. Not fool proof though. Had 1 dart into the ground out in Spang. prca linkage was hooked up backwards. Belcrank got flipped on install. Killed the pilot and crew chief commited suicide.

That truly is a testament to what we as a nation can create.
The video seems to be a recreation using computers to make it look like one wing is missing. Israel has some of the best pilots in the world.

Thanks for sharing.

Put enough thrust behind a brick and it will fly. This accident demonstrates either how much aileron authority the F-15 has, how little lift the wings actually produce, and most likely the combination of both of those variables.

The F-15 for a long time was my favorite modern warplane. The ability of an airplane to glide after losing all thrust is an irrelevant design spec when there's an eject button nearby. You'll certainly never see a story like this about a commercial airliner.

This is what made me fall in love with the F-15:

"The museum's single-seat F15A, nicknamed "Streak Eagle," broke eight time-to-climb world records between Jan. 16 and Feb. 1, 1975. In setting the last of the eight records, it reached an altitude of 98,425 feet just 3 minutes, 27.8 seconds from brake release at takeoff and "coasted" to nearly 103,000 feet before descending."

Release the brakes, rotate fifteen seconds later, point the nose at the stars, then climb at an average vertical speed of 350 miles per hour.

Average climb rates:

F-15 - ~30,000 feet per minute to 95,000 feet
Commercial Airliner - ~ 4000-5000 f.p.m. to 10,000 feet, 2500-3500 f.p.m. between 10k & 18k feet, then 500-1500 to a maximum altitude of around 41,000 feet.
