Exactly 3.5 quarts?

Just did an oil change, with filter. Put 3.5 quarts in it as the book says. Ran the engine a bit. Let it settle for 30 minutes. Made sure it was level - barely got a reading (well below "low" in the site window. What's up with this?

I'd do as they ^ say and go with 3.8-3.9.A friend of mines did 3.5 oil changes and he wheelied quite often until about a month ago.His motor went ka-bowwwww.
