Kris (Fishhook's son) and I took off for the mountains this morning. I remembered the and brought back pictures.
After a pass over the Cherohala Skyway, we went into Robbinsville and paid a visit to Reba at the Phillips Motel.
Then we stopped by the APGI-Tapoco Cheoah Development aka Fugitive Dam. I also made a side trip to TVA - Fontana Dam after a couple of Dragon passes.
The CROT was busier than I expected for a weekday.
There were noticeable improvements on the Dragon. All of the pull-offs on the Tennessee side (most of the road) are now paved instead of gravel. We also saw an 18-wheeler. It was escorted by a patrol car and motorcycle from the Sheriff's office all the way to the North Carolina line, where two NC State Troopers took over. I don't know if this was a one time thing or what, but it was very nice. The motorcycle rode ahead of the truck and alerted oncoming traffic so there were no surprises or accidents.
Anyway, it was a good day.
