Busas work fine at Barber, one just has to know the bike's and the rider's limits.

I started there in a track class and then ran Novice (half a day of 'parade laps' with a coach watching most of the time). Did Intermediate last weekend and did feel the front sliding here and there as I was trying to out run my buds.
Best advice I can give a newcomer taking a 530lb bike to a road course is:
1. Start SLOW - tires wont warm up for 3 laps (at Barber)
2. Use a coach, get someone to watch you run and get some feedback! I have never encountered a good rider who did not enjoy the opportunity to tell me how bad or well I was riding!
3. Use the whole track - Busas like lots of room!

Glad your ok but dont lose the spirit man, harness that enthusiasm and you'll rock!

does it really take 3 laps to warm up the tires? maybe that is part of an issue?

There could be some variants but at the riders meeting we had prior to running, we were advised to give the tires 3 laps to heat up.

Thats just what I did!

Yep, it really does take three laps to get your tires hot, not just warm. Your stock tires work best between 115 & 135 degrees. Most street rider crashes occur during the first two laps. Probably 99% of all crashes are due to rider input. The bike does exactly what you tell it to.

If I'm riding street tires I start slow and progressively pick up the speed and wait until the fourth lap before giving the tires a spankin! Although you can drag your knee on the first lap as long as you do it gently.

What were you running for tire pressure? This is the exact reason I bought a track bike. I have done 3 trackdays with no washouts.
Were you making sure the tires were warmed up a couple laps before romping it in the corners????
