Do you lift Rear Tire to Adjust chain?

Do you adjust your chain with the bike on the ground, can this be done? Or is it better to lift back of bike to loosen nut and adjust chain.

Adjust chain with tire on ground (weight of bike)...even better have a friend sit on it and hold it up straight while you adjust it for the most accurate measurement.

Always adjust with the bike on the ground AND with you sitting on it.

Much better and more accurate tensioning that way.

I adjust mine on stands; for me, 1" on the stand equals 3/4" with my weight on it. I torque the axle nut to 80 ft/lbs

I don't have a stand yet and did mine on the ground. Just make sure to use the marks on the adjusters and keep it even on both sides.

Either / or, but check tension with weight on rear tire once done, even marks, nut torqued to a minumum of 72.5 ft / lbs, don't forget your cotter or a decent hitch-pin......
