Better locks, concrete construction with metal door jambs, finished off with ADT and several .357s throughout the home, .12 in the bedroom next to the AR, etc.... ASP baton, Pepper Spray, and some form of firearm in the vehicle as well.

Funny, you have to be about batsh!t crazy to break into someones home, knowing they are home. This being the case there is no chance that anyone breaking into my home be it teenage girl with a tire iron or hardened adult male criminal will not leave alive if I have anything to say about it.

If you aren't prepared to kill, to destroy another's life and possibly wreck another family, then don't own a gun for home defense. Buy good locks, an alarm system and hope a lot. Just remember that the POLICE will NEVER be there to PREVENT your house being robbed or your wife/girlfriend from being raped... They'll show up just in time to tag a toe, call the Aid car, and just add you to a pile of unsolved cases nobody is interested in.

Home invasions are a sad fact of life nowadays, it's not a question of whether or not you are paranoid, it's a matter of whether you are paranoid enough.

Also remember that door locks are simply a security device of convenience. Things to rely on when you are not home. When you are home there are a number of ways to secure your doors regardless of what a potential burglar brings to the party. A 2X4 can be a simple though inelegant solution to providing some real addition security that NO lock pick or bump can get around. There are other solutions as well, NONE of which involves a door chain

Seriously though, a little common sense and some redneck engineering can secure the heck outta your home.

Security film is key, it can really REALLY slow down anyone trying to come through a window. Plenty of time for you to take action. After that, just some sticks, long screws, lag bolts, and some creativity can have you just about zombie proof.

Honestly, If my wife would let me do it, I'd have 12 Ft. chainlink fence with razor coiled wire on the top and big azz cameras all around the house. And I actually live in a low crime great family neighborhood.
Nobody would f_ck with you.....

I never understood why people buy doors of steel and triple deadbolts when there's a piece of glass that takes a second to break to gain entry. Have a monitored alarm and have it posted. Helps to have a pooch also.
If they're crazy enough to do a home invasion while I am here they are going to the morgue, 911 just calls for the meat wagon

It is amazing how people lock their doors but have this huge blind spot when it comes to those BIG GLASS WINDOWS.

they have been smashing sliding glass doors around here. so the door alarms don't work . You need a motion detector

True.. Windows are a criminals #1 way of getting in.. especially the people that don't even ensure they're locked. I lived in the military barracks and my roommate left his window unlocked when we went on leave.. 1 44 inch plasma screen later.. he learned his lesson.. Even if you lock them.. security film is nice.. but it's just like stealing a bike.. if they want in bad enough.. they're gonna get in.. that's when it comes down to you, your 357, and the biggest baddest dog you can find.

+ a lot of people upgrade the door without upgrading the jamb. a great, heavy super secure door will help shatter the stock jamb when decent pressure is applied. they make steel reinforcement plates to help bolster the striker area, and be sure to use long screws, not the stupid eco 1/2 inchers supplied. the more penetration... the more secure it is. I live in a crappy area in a crappy house, so the thugs drop stuff off instead of taking it
