Started yesterday. America’s Ricky Brabec who won last year is in second place after two sessions. It’s on NBCSN here. Both top two riders are on Hondas. Yams, KTMs and Huskys make up the field. Brabec said they’re all worried by the rule that they can only use six sets of tires for the whole race. Seems prohibitive and the cars are known to have flats 2-3 times (a day) on occasion. Wonder why? Exciting to watch, especially the big trucks. Some of vehicles are pretty trick, being able to adjust tire pressure on the fly for example. High end GPS units are also in use, and some still get lost. Saudi Arabia sure is a desolate place. Anyone else watching? Bumblebee, you ever have boots down in that sand pile?

Yep, been in that desert a couple times.....it is deceptive....you think there's nothing there and then "poof" people come out of nowhere.

The rocks are very sharp and cut tires up pretty bad...after coming out of there, my boots were pretty much toast from them. In some places the sand is like talcum powder, it would be interesting to see what they are running for filters...we ran K&N in our vehicles....

It’s hard to believe that most of the four wheeled vehicles are just two wheel drive! Amazing throttle control to keep from digging in over the giant sand dunes (or) launching off the cliff side that some of the dunes have. What a variety of terrain too, rock fields, flat sand, giant sand dunes, whoops almost everywhere causing some to flip wildly end over end. Their physical endurance is remarkable.
